Years of Birth and Death
[edit]Who Was Who in America, Historical Volume 1607-1896 lists his birth in 1572 in Bristol, and his death in 1639. Neither agrees with those in the article. Any idea how they should be reconciled? Badbilltucker 14:55, 3 August 2006 (UTC)
- Probably worth mentioning in a footnote. - 64.81.170.123 (talk) 01:18, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
Book by William Vollmann
[edit]I'm not sure whether this is worth mentioning in the article, but he is the title character (but not the central character) of William Vollmann's historical novel Argall: The True Story of Pocahontas and Captain John Smith. - 64.81.170.123 (talk) 01:19, 15 July 2010 (UTC)
Portrait
[edit]The portrait shown is not Samuel Argall but Lord de la Warr (see his article in Encyclopedia of Virginia). The mistake has been picked up from another site specialising in Virginian history but I am afraid I cannot remember which. There is no portrait of Sam although he features and is named in a contemporary etching. I can give you a link to that if you want it. Mauvesin (talk) 09:26, 1 October 2013 (UTC)
- I've been searching for any semblance of a Argall image, but the closest one I could find was Jean Leon Gerome Ferris' The Abduction of Pocahontas (see also link2 ) That first link also incorrectly states Argall's location as "at right" (Argall is on the left of Pocahontas). If someone would be so kind as to find a public domain/sharable copy of this image, that would be a great contribution to the article. StevePrutz (talk) 12:49, 23 May 2024 (UTC)
