Her parents are expatriates from India who initially migrated to Bangladesh, then to Pakistan and then to Saudi Arabia and now they are settled in USA. Aziz completed her early education at Gulistan Shah Abdul Latif School in Karachi, Pakistan. She completed her graduate degree from P.E.C.H.S. Girl's College and a master’s degree in international relations and journalism from the University of Karachi. She also completed a postgraduate degree in mass communication and film direction from Livewires – The Media Institute in Mumbai, India. Later, she completed a Ph.D. at Osmania University, Hyderabad, India.
