Title
[edit]When was the "The" dropped from the official name? 81.158.1.127 00:37, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
- 2002 - I've edited the article to make this clear. --OpenToppedBus - Talk to the driver 15:59, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
'hoax' callers
[edit]I don't think that this belongs in the confidentiality section (if it indeed belongs anywhere). I think it gives a misleading impression about how Samaritans treats 'hoax' callers, and undermines the confidentiality that many callers depend upon. I suggest it be removed - it is not part of Samaritans policy and is not cited. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.13.4.53 (talk • contribs) 02:41, 7 November 2006
- I've rewritten, with a cite from Samaritans' website. --OpenToppedBus - Talk to the driver 10:20, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Sams logo.gif
[edit]Image:Sams logo.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Articles of individual Samaritans branches (specifically Dublin Samartians)
[edit]The International reach section contains a link to Dublin Samaritans; however there are 20 Samaritans branches in Ireland (source), of which Dublin Samaritans is only one. It feels improper to have pages for each and every one of the 200+ Samaritans branches, or even for the 20 in Ireland, so I'd like to suggest that this link is removed.
I'll also be suggesting that the Dublin Samaritans article is removed as it doesn't provide anything of particular value or significant notability that is not already thoroughly covered on this page. --Avapoet (talk) 15:40, 22 January 2013 (UTC)
Removing Controversy section
[edit]I've just removed the following text and reference from a section headed "Controversy":
- The Samaritans hit controversy when it emerged that they had pestered an elderly women for a donation. The pressure from the charities drove the woman to commit suicide in 2015. [1]
I don't think that accurately reflects what's in the source. To describe two letters a year as "pestering" is wrong, even if that's what was in the headline of the article. Moreover, the article itself is cherry-picked as a source. Olive Cooke's own family have strenuously denied that the contacts from charities had anything to do with her death. Offering emotional support 24 hours a day, 365 days a year with more than 4,000 trained volunteers. Thanks 2804:14C:4E4:8E33:B889:3E44:3BC8:E09F (talk) 22:27, 4 January 2024 (UTC)
