"Caste based"

[edit]

Someone asked me on my talk page to take a look at the "caste based party" claim in this article. I said there in my reply that, from memory,

it began as a Yadav-centric party and so was definitely "caste-based" in the purest sense of the word. However, I think it now appeals to a wider range of people than just the Yadavs, meaning that it still gets involved in caste politics (like most Indian parties) but does not draw its support solely from one caste, nor frame its policies solely for one caste. It is OBCs, Dalits and the like now, rather than just Yadavs. Mulayam practically reinvented it to gain power.

I've just taken a quick look at the source cited here for the claim and it does indeed seem to suggest that it is no longer caste-based. Am I misreading it? - Sitush (talk) 14:39, 3 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Political position

[edit]

The sources clearly suggests that it is a centrist political party which is left leaning on economic issues and right leaning on social issues, hence "Centre-right to centre- left" will be most appropriate, though I will like to hear your opinions too. "Controversies"

[edit]

Wikipedia articles of major indian political parties (ex : Bharatiya Janata Party and Indian National Congress) does not have "Controversies" section in their page. To be fair to this page and to maintain the neutrality of wikipedia,"Controversies" section will be removed from this page. Sachin126 (talk) 04:09, 15 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Adding to Sachin126, looks like various editors are pushing WP:POV in view of upcoming Assembly Elections in Uttar Pradesh. Please remember WP:NOTNEWS ChunnuBhai (talk) 05:11, 15 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Criticism and controversies

[edit]

In the realm of Indian politics, controversies arise on a daily basis. It's unnecessary to include every single daily controversy or news item unless the individual in question has been convicted by the Indian Judiciary or has served a considerable amount of time in jail. Also, Having a separate controversies section in articles isn't ideal. Instead, the pertinent issues should be addressed within the relevant sections of the individual's career articles, rather than consolidating them into a section that may incite negativity. Criticism and controversies section will be trimmed heavily in due time. Do no revert or engage in edit wars. I would request editors to discuss here on talk page before adding them. Thank you.
