Article has a lot of duplication about Belleville store?

[edit]

Article has a lot of duplication about Belleville store? Could be condensed...almost reads like an AD right now with so many references. Also, the link would seem like a legacy website but it is going off to the individual store. Not an issue on its own, but in larger scope of the references...Adtrace (talk) 07:01, 15 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Bizarre Sam Sign sighting

[edit]

I don't know if we should note this or not in the entry, but I saw the "Sam the Record Man" store and sign during the final battle of The Incredible Hulk in an area that was supposed to be depicting Harlem in New York City. I know movies made in Toronto are common but that sighting alongside the Apollo Theater just seemed ridiculous and unintentionally hilarious. -StrangerAtaru (talk) 23:55, 15 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nope. Shouldn't go in. SchuminWeb (Talk) 03:19, 16 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
FYI - That Scene was filmed on Yonge Street - Watched them do it, they made a fake facade for a building to replicate the Apollo, but Yonge between Dundas and Gerrard was used for the filming every night for about a week, in 2007 --Eja2k (talk) 19:42, 26 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sam was a store, no longer is

[edit]

The two stores operating in Belleville are independent of the original Sam. This article is about the company Nicholas.tan (talk) 21:48, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

While there has been no news coverage that I can find, I can personaly verify that the main Sam building (Corner of Gould and Yonge) has been leveled as of mid March 2009, and the Signs were removed a few months before that. I may go and take a picture or two as "proof" and will gladly post one into the article if/when i do. --Eja2k (talk) 19:42, 26 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Original Sam's is still standing

[edit]

As of November 2009 the original Sam's store is still standing, it has not yet been demolished. So far demolition has only been completed (in the spring of 2009) on the former Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce which was added on to Sam's in the mid-late 70's. This property was south of the original Sam's store at the corner of Gould and Yonge Sts.

Under the heading "Founding", one piece of information is incorrect. Sam's also expanded into the building north of it's original store in the early 80's which was previously a restaurant, it was not the A&A store. The A&A store was one property north of the restaurant that Sam's took over in the 80's. The former A&A Records store eventually became a Future Shop location for about 15 or so years. This Future Shop location closed in 2008 when they moved a block south to the new Toronto Life Square complex and has sat empty since then awaiting demolition. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Toronto geek (talkcontribs) 10:54, 27 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Original research issues regarding Frederick Harrison

[edit]

As much as I think that Frederick Harrison's information may be correct, it unfortunately seems to definitely fall under WP:ORIGINAL. These are his reminisces, and as such, likely cannot be used, even though they do fill in some holes in the information. He wrote an entire section on the expansion of the Flagship store, which I removed and placed in the article that deals with the Yonge Street store. That section will likely have to be deleted as well, because that information falls under the original research policy. If Mr. Harrison can point to news media accounts that back up his information, than we can use those sources to back up his writing. What are your thoughts?--Abebenjoe (talk) 22:14, 16 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Toronto-centric article

[edit]

Sure the HQ was in Toronto, but Sam was super important to the Montréal music scene too. 76.69.137.210 (talk) 23:26, 25 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
