I wonder if this song is the source of the name of the fictional "Sam Stone" in the false memory study known as the "Sam Stone Study? Leichtman MD and Ceci SJ, The effects of stereotypes and suggestions on preschoolers' reports, Developmental Psychology 31, 568-578, 1995. Pustelnik (talk) 13:50, 6 December 2007 (UTC)
This song may not reference vietnam vets but rather Korean war viets, as refuring to Korea as a "conflict" was the custume at the time. Also wounded vets from Korea had greater incidence of heroine dependance as morphine was used extensively.--Jimmeyjazz (talk) 00:16, 13 July 2011 (UTC)
Really, this song could mean any conflict overseas. However, since it was written in the Vietnam era, it most likely means Vietnam.
