No citations for most of article and written from a fan's perspective
[edit]{{help me}}
Hi. A help me template has been used here, but no question has been asked which a helper can respond to. If you wish to ask a question, please do so. The template is now nulled, and may be reactivated if you feel that the issues discussed below do not adequately resolve what you wanted to get assistance with. BarkingFish 21:09, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
Most of Sam Querrey is being written from a fan's or friend's perspective and has no citations for most of it. It also contains a lot of very subjective/fan/interpretive language: Example 1: "Many tennis experts, including Davis Cup Captain Patrick McEnroe, have touted Querrey as America's next great talent." Example 2: "Querrey possesses a huge serve, one of the best in today's game." Besides having no citations for most of the information in the article, users are putting details of _every_ tennis match he plays, instead of just highlights or noteworthy matches only. Also, there are now four photos of Querrey displayed in the article. And it is not like Querrey is a top player in the world. He is currently ranked around 65 or 70, yet the length and tone of the article makes it appear as if he is a top player. The "Playing style and equipment" section appears to be nothing but pure adverstising/promotion for his sponsors. This article appears to be edited by personal friends or very big fans of Querrey's. Amazingly, in the "Personal Life" section someone added the names of his friends from home (who are unknown, so not notable). 76.189.126.170 (talk) 03:32, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
- I certainly think that there is excessive weight given to minor details, and also that much of the content is unsourced. However, I am not very knowledgeable on the subject. Have you considered editing the article to try to improve it? JamesBWatson (talk) 10:40, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
- I wanted an administrator or knowledgeable editor on the subject to deal with this because there's SO much wrong with this article. Almost every time Querrey plays a match, noteworthy or not, a "fan" edits this article with completely unsourced content. I just added the "citation needed" tag everywhere it's needed and removed some of the blatant fan/subjective/advertising language. But someone who has the time and knowledge needs to do a major cleanup of this article. In the meantime, can you or another administrator put a notice on the article about all the flaws e.g. lack of citations, fan language, excessive minor content, etc.? 76.189.126.170 (talk) 16:51, 1 July 2012 (UTC)

- Thank you! As I said, I did some edits a few minutes ago, just to add "citation needed" tags throughout the article and to remove some of the blatant subjective/fan/advertising language. Also removed the names of Querrey's high school friends from the "Personal Life" section. 76.189.126.170 (talk) 17:15, 1 July 2012 (UTC) 17:16, 1 July 2012 (UTC)
- @BarkingFish, a helper (Mdann52) HAS responded. My comments clearly explained the problem and, apparently, Mdann52, is working on it. 76.189.126.170 (talk) 01:08, 2 July 2012 (UTC)
- Done. By the way, there was a bit of an overuse of {{citation needed}} templates. Mdann52 (talk) 15:48, 2 July 2012 (UTC)
- Nice job. It's not an overuse of citation needed templates; it's an overuse of content without citations. If there are 100 unsourced claims, there should be 100 citation needed templates, per Wikipedia guidelines. :) 76.189.126.170 (talk) 19:39, 2 July 2012 (UTC) 20:32, 2 July 2012 (UTC)
