one week suspension in 2010
[edit]Is it really relevant, all player suspensions get coverage for suspensions, but this is WP:UNDUE, for the amount of text. Lengthy suspensions are worthy of inclusion but WP doesn't start reporting every player suspensions not just for league but for any sport. LibStar (talk) 16:14, 27 September 2014 (UTC)
- Hey LibStar. I should just say I appreciate your edits to rugby league-relate articles. I'm aware of the negative effect that finding one's edits undone by someone can have and want to avoid them completely as it's obvious to me that you care about these articles' quality. Part of me agrees with you. It'd be much better to talk about the effect of the suspension rather than the fact he was cited with speculation on how long the suspension might be. It bothers me too that this suspension is mentioned while I'm sure there are others that aren't. If the article were filled out properly with the same level of detail throughout and all were mentioned, it would fix the WP:UNDUE problem. But someone went to the trouble of updating it and referencing it at the time and now that's being undone merely because that same level of detailed article-writing hasn't been maintained. That doesn't feel right to me as I think the standard should be set at the higher level of detail, not the lower. The problem could be solved now by doing the research and adding in all the rest of Burgess' suspensions with references, thus diluting this one's prominence. But this seems like a lot to ask. What's the rush? Wikipedia has no deadlines. By way of analogy, when I first came to Wikipedia in 2007 Darren Lockyer's article consisted of swathes of text detailing his time since switching to five-eighth and next to nothing about his time at fullback. Classic recentism. Rather than creating balance instantly by cutting back the level of detail of the five-eighth portion of the article, I started adding referenced material for his time at fullback as I came across it little by little. Those first additions might have appeared totally undue as well, taking up such a large portion of the (at the time) small fullback portion of his career that they did. But over time as these additions have been gradually built on, their prominence has been diluted. The same thing might happen (or be happenning) here and one day this article will be properly filled out and what appears prominent now will be nestled in amongst a lot more detail. And I think Wikipedia would be full of examples of situations like this. Leaving mention of this suspension in might encourage editors to do likewise for other suspensions. Removing it might discourage this productivity.--Gibson Flying V (talk) 22:45, 27 September 2014 (UTC)
