This article has been checked against the following criteria for B-class status:
This article is written in American English, which has its own spelling conventions (color, defense, traveled) and some terms that are used in it may be different or absent from other varieties of English. According to the relevant style guide, this should not be changed without broad consensus.
The treatment of the (alleged) deal with the gangs; there's a lot of material on it [1][2]
Actual specific reactions to all of this by various people/groups
Democratic backsliding under Bukele, including removal of persons investigating the said deal and the court-packing, which contextualizes some of the criticism
I just did the math and over 1% of El Salvador's population has been arrested due to the gang crackdown. That's a pretty big number, should we mention it somewhere in the article?
If anyone is wondering how I got the percentage:
66,757[1]/6,572,243[2] = 0.01015741505 or 1.015741505%
The first piece seems to be more a persuasive essay than an actual good source of information. Claiming that the crackdown is targeting "communities where people have, for years, suffered insecurity and lack of economic and educational opportunities" is disingenuous and is a sign that whoever wrote the article does not know how to properly draw conclusions from evidence. Whether or not the Régimen is actually a HRV, claiming that they are specifically targeting "low-income neighborhoods" is an absolute lie. EytanMelech (talk) 16:57, 24 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
All the allegations that have made by the HRW are already a part of the reactions subsection. There is nothing new in this particular report. Smahwk (talk) 14:10, 30 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The author to which the quote has been attributed to has a background in reporting on crime in Latin America,so I support it. Smahwk (talk) 16:58, 2 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The WP:RSN thread has been archived here without a formal close. This Wikipedia article still has a cite of UnHerd, which I too support, and I'm hopeful that the danger has passed. Peter Gulutzan (talk) 13:12, 24 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Unless the site has drastically changed in the last couple years, it is basically 100% (contrarian) opinion pieces, which are not considered RS for factual information. Maybe it is slightly better than Quillette (rated non-RS at RSN), maybe not, but either way I do not think it is a reliable source for citing in Wikipedia articles. We certainly need more info on the role of the usa and cia in training these gangs and starting these issues in the first place. I thought that was very well-known. DivineReality (talk) 13:03, 17 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
