Separation of domestic/international flights
[edit]I've noticed that at a few US airports (specifically JFK, EWR, ORD and LAX) some airlines domestic and international destinations are seperated. This is not set up in the standard form as set forth in the ProjectWiki Airport guide. Plus, when it's being done, it's inconsistent even within the airport page - i.e. DL and UA destinations being seperated, but AA and NW remaining intact at LAX. Also, people don't/shouldn't break it down for the airlines' regional ops, because 1) it looks awful, and 2) it just doesn't make much sense. So, stop doing it. Thanks. - Besides Salt Lake International has pretty much a pathetic International schedule. Most all of it is seasonal ocassional (not daily), I think Delta's Paris flight is the only one year round.JhanJensen (talk) 22:34, 14 June 2013 (UTC)
United mainline to SFO
[edit]Please check the timetables: http://www.united.com/page/article/0,6722,1891,00.html?navSource=Dropdown07&linkTitle=timetables. UA does not operate mainline flights from SLC to SFO but does operate mainline flights from SFO into SLC. All flights between Salt Lake City and San Francisco are flown by United Express carrier SkyWest Airlines and the rest you will have to go thru DEN or LAX, both which are United hubs (WP:AIRPORTS specifically states no thru-hub destinations to be listed). Salt Lake City can remain as a UA destination from SFO but SFO cannot be listed as a destination from SLC. Snoozlepet (talk) 22:40, 11 November 2010 (UTC)

Do we really need to list a bird strike?
[edit]The article currently includes what appears to be a rather routine return-to-field following a bird strike incident that happened on a sports charter earlier this year. Is this really sufficiently notable to be listed in the Accidents and Incidents section? The FAA literally recorded around 17,000 bird strikes - almost 50 every day - in 2019 in the U.S. alone. Reagan/National name
[edit]I notice a fair bit of revert-warring over whether that airport in DC is named Washington Reagan National Airport, just Washington National Airport, DCA (airport), or whatnot. I've mostly heard it referred to as Reagan National, but obviously that's just my experience. (I wikilinked all those to show they all link to the same thing) Is there a definitive answer for what similar pages use? I think there's a lot of personal preference and political bias that influences what people think it should be, and of course there doesn't appear to be any sort of official consensus amongst news sources. Thoughts? Darkage7[Talk] 20:55, 15 April 2024 (UTC)
- @Darkage7:
- In the airline and destinations table, it should just be listed as “Washington–National”. This is how it’s listed on all airport pages. There seems to be an IP user who keeps changing it specifically on the SLC page and nowhere else.

- Is that written down somewhere? I have no strong preference, but I also don't believe in just following the herd for no reason. I do notice there's no sort of consistent usage even on the DCA page. I did stumble upon this, which seems pretty inconclusive. Given that the name of the airport comes with political baggage, does picking a "winner" violate neutrality? I have no doubt I'm not the first person to ask this question, I just would like to learn if there was consensus. Darkage7[Talk] 04:29, 16 April 2024 (UTC)
- @Darkage7:
- Actually have no idea. I was specifically talking about the name's usage in the Airlines & Destinations tables only, so as for its usage on DCA's page, I'm not sure there. For years, every airport's tables have used "National" and don't think there has ever been a discussion, it's just been kept for as long as I can remember reading these tables on airports. In terms of tables on other airports it's consistent (hence the reverts in the table), just not sure about its other usages. VenFlyer98 (talk) 19:17, 16 April 2024 (UTC)

Request for Protection?
[edit]Would anyone think it would be a good idea to possibly request the page gets editing protection? An IP editor has repeatedly made changes to the destination table, specifically changing “Washington–National” to “Regan National” which is not how it is listed across airport articles in these tables. I’ve left several warnings on the talk pages of this IP editor, but it seems like these messages have been ignored. Anyone think protecting against unregistered users would be the right move? VenFlyer98 (talk) 23:09, 11 June 2024 (UTC)
- I think the better question (and I raised this above) is why is "It's just how it's listed" the accepted status quo. The people changing it to Reagan might be making good faith edits, and to them it might seem you're waging a one person edit war. Again, I don't believe there's a real consensus, I think there's a politically charged status quo. I would like to see some other editors chime in. Darkage7[Talk] 23:18, 11 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Darkage7: I don’t understand how it’s a politically charged status quo. Every airport article on Wikipedia that has a table with DCA in it has it as “Washington–National,” it has never been an issue on any page. The IP editors aren’t even using edit summaries to say why they’re changing it. WP:AIRPORT-CONTENT even uses “National” in its example table, and that’s pretty solid guidelines for airport articles. I can make a discussion at WP:AIRPORTS to let others chime in, but this shouldn’t be an issue in the first place. VenFlyer98 (talk) 01:38, 12 June 2024 (UTC)
- I agree that we can keep the convention of "Washington–National". This is unambiguous and consistently used and does not need to be lengthened here. It's similar to "Houston–Intercontinental" as a concise but specific name. Reywas92Talk 13:41, 12 June 2024 (UTC)
- @Reywas92 Yes, I agree. I opened a discussion at WP:AIRPORTS anyway, but I’m just trying to figure out what to do about the IP users. VenFlyer98 (talk) 18:43, 12 June 2024 (UTC)
