I keep seeing references to this woman in modern books by reputable historians, but the footnotes never lead back further than the 20th century. It would be nice to see a reference to a letter or newspaper article from the 18th c. --MopTop (talk) 19:17, 24 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I found several mentions of the story of Sally St. Clair in books and magazines from the 1840s-1870s. Here's one And here's another. And here's yet another. Wikipedia usually prefers secondary to primary sources. Although it would be great to dig up the original newspaper article or statements from the Revolutionary or post-revolutionary era, that's not really our job as Wikipedians.
