Reliance on a single Sally Sloane bio for key facts
[edit]A WP editor has added the "close paraphrasing" template to a preliminary version of this article. I have indeed drawn bio key facts from one source in the main, but have condensed, and re-ordered the material into a narrative form suitable for WP, hopefully with enough re-wording (now) to avoid a charge of direct plagiarism. I have also added a wikinote to the section header explaining the (in this case) general reliance on a single source, as follows:
"At this time, the "biography" section of this article draws for a number of key facts on Valda Low's excellent 2003 article, "Who is Sally Sloane" (refer References section), the single easily accessible source for biographical information information on Sally, which should be consulted for much additional information. As further sources are located, undue reliance on this single source can be reduced."
I believe that this is now sufficient explanation and alteration to remove the "close paraphrasing" template at this time, although additional sources would obviously improve the article further (which I will seek over time). I note the following, from the WP paraphrasing article:
"Paraphrase may attempt to preserve the essential meaning of the material being paraphrased. Thus, the (intentional or otherwise) reinterpretation of a source to infer a meaning that is not explicitly evident in the source itself qualifies as "original research," and not as paraphrase."
Obviously I cannot do original research for this purpose, so "paraphrasing" (while hopefully avoiding "close paraphrasing") is the best I can do at this time.Tony 1212 (talk) 21:49, 27 March 2020 (UTC)
- I have now melded information from several more sources so have removed the source note given above from the article text. Tony 1212 (talk) 19:21, 28 March 2020 (UTC)
