Hello, I am a Computer Science teacher at Walker Middle School and my class has created the Walker Middle School (Oregon) article as a class project. I understand that some of the submissions to this article have been of a poor or questionable quality. Also, I understand that the article still has only very scant information about the historical and cultural significance of our school. However, since the page has been locked against additional submissions, we are unable to add the relevant information that might make it clear why Walker MS is notable. I will be requesting that the page be unlocked so that my students and I will have access to edit and expand this article. Thank you, Mr.lucas hill 20:41, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

Walker is a good school. really fun, it should stay...-Hyung

I've unprotected the page in light of this. You may be interested in checking out Wikipedia's school projects page; consider adding this to the list of current projects. Nufy8 21:49, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

How to improve the article

Merge proposal

Do articles about schools typically get mergerd into articles about school districts? I see lots of articles about individual schools. Walker Middle School (Salem Oregon) is an institution with considerable social and historical significance and I believe it deserves its own article.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Mr.lucas hill (talkcontribs) 20:30, April 12, 2007

Thank you for your opinion. I go to Walker and I pray that these people are kind enough to let our page be. I understand that people are making inappropriate submissions into the page, but I believe that I can change these incorrect comments. I will do everything in my power to make everything in the topic valid and/or useful.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Chriskarr1 (talkcontribs) 18:22, April 13, 2007

Hi folks, thanks for your interest in Wikipedia. "These people" are you people too, but we have guidelines about various things, including notability. Like I said in my merge proposal, middle schools generally are not notable. Despite the fact that there are articles on other schools, this doesn't necessarily make any school article valid. See WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. If you look at Category:Education in Oregon, you will see that there are very few articles on middle schools unless they are unique in terms of their educational approach, though Leslie Middle School is well-written and establishes notability in terms of local history. I generally propose a merge when a middle school article consists of less than a paragraph of text. You can see an example of this kind of merger at Tigard-Tualatin School District. If you think you can get your article up to standard, here are some guidelines:

Oh and it's entirely weird to be having this conversation on the talk page of an article that doesn't exist. If you would care to contribute an article on the school district, that would be very helpful. Thanks!

Happy editing!

P.S. Here is a series of debates regarding various school articles that have been nominated for deletion: Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Schools. By studying these you should be able to get an idea of what makes a middle school article notable. Katr67 19:56, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

Lost interest?

After an initial flurry of activity, little has occured to bring this article up to standard. If nothing happens soon I'll probably go ahead and merge this article with the school district. Katr67 21:05, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

WikiProject class rating

This article was automatically assessed because at least one WikiProject had rated the article as start, and the rating on other projects was brought up to start class. BetacommandBot 10:41, 10 November 2007 (UTC)
