Sources

[edit]

Just a note that interviews are considered primary sources and somewhat promotional. Wikipedia doesn't rely on interviews too much. Use the independent journalists in reliable newspapers writing about Modi - not Modi talking about himself. -- Green Cardamom (talk) 06:59, 20 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The article now has too many sources. It's essentially acting as a WP:LINKFARM for every source ever published that mentions Saket Modi. Wikipedia is not meant to be a comprehensive bibliography of external sources, it reads like a promotional piece WP:PROMO. -- GreenC 16:18, 17 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Discussion moved from User_talk:Abishe#Saket_Modi (April 6 - April 18)

Hi Abishe, I appreciate you taking out the time to review Saket Modi. I noticed that you have reverted the edits I made to the page and left no message. Could you please explain to me why these edits were declined and what I could do to rectify it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2402:3A80:1875:6A90:5D2D:43FD:38B5:347C (talk) 14:01, 6 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@2402:3A80:1875:6A90:5D2D:43FD:38B5:347C: Thanks for your message but I did revert your edit on Saket Modi as it was set as a redirect for Lucideus. Saket Modi fails WP:GNG and that's why the subject has been set as a redirect target. Abishe (talk) 16:55, 6 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your swift response Abishe. But the topic in question has been discussed in various reputable publications including Forbes, The Economic Times...etc He was felicitated with many prestigious awards including Indian Ambassador of Cyber Security in Education by Government of India, Entrepreneur of the Year. I have read Wikipedia's Any biography. Can you please double check as I see it meets most of the criteria outlined there. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2402:3A80:667:58F5:B13D:41E7:7A11:6450 (talk) 16:14, 7 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@2402:3A80:667:58F5:B13D:41E7:7A11:6450: I just undone my edit according to your suggestion. I made to this position based upon his notabiliy. Abishe (talk) 16:32, 7 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry but this article has been subject to continual COI edits both by Saket Modi himself, his family/employees and also by his competitors; in addition they have been editing negatively against their competitors articles. They use socks, social engineering (see above), etc.. It has a long history of disruptive editing across many articles by a train of socks and IPs. The latest sock just got blocked within hours of the article re-creation! That is just the beginning. It is a huge can of worms that took up years of my life dealing with and Abishe if you restore the article that is your choice, but you should be prepared to follow through dealing with the COI, PROMO, SOCK etc.. -- GreenC 13:51, 8 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@GreenC: I completely apologise to my blunder over reverting the redirect Saket Modi to Lucideus. I understand that IP anonymous editors may have COI with the person and I take the blame and responsibility for my erroneous edit. I hope to have a look at these things. Thank you for notifying this. Abishe (talk) 15:15, 8 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Ok thank you for understanding. It is your choice as a neutral editor, but wanted to make sure you are aware of the situation which the above IP's message was not clear about the article history. -- GreenC 17:30, 8 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Abishe/@GreenC: I agree with you that the page has been heavily edited in the past and therefore, it was pending changes protected by Wikipedia administrator to protect against persistent vandalism. Now that the page is protected and nothing can not be vandalized, why we instead of disapproving edits that do not comply with Wikipedia's policies want to remove the entire content. Saket is one of the most prominent entrepreneurs and meets requirements for a stand-alone article.103.203.231.178 (talk) 08:49, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

As you probably know the article is a severe case of WP:COI and WP:PROMO that it became disruptive to the Wikipedia community. Meeting a sourcing requirement is not automatic acceptance. We can't spend hours of our day chasing after revolving IPs and endless socks dealing with disruptive behavior surrounding this article and a few others. Particularly related to the awards sections, WP:PROMO and WP:PEACOCK language. You have added promotional material with a sock then edit war for months. You are obviously involved with this topic, have a WP:COI - you shouldn't be editing the article at all. You should let the community of neutral uninvolved editors make the article and leave it alone. If you want to add something, follow the directions at WP:COI and propose it on the talk page. Furthermore stop trying to hack the system by using IPs and socks, register an account and stick with it - it's plainly obvious you are trying to hide. If you can demonstrate an ability to follow the rules, and edit with a respectable account that reveals your COI, then we can work with you. Also given that one of the accounts that recently edited the article is tied up with Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/Swarup_Kumar_Solanki/Archive I wouldn't be surprised if you are an undisclosed paid editing entity. -- GreenC 14:49, 13 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your response @GreenC: but i am not trying to hide my identity at all. In fact my IPs are visible to everyone here. I did not have an account, but I have created one today as you advised. In addition to this, I read Wikipedia's COI and would like to disclose here that i have a conflict of interest with the subject and have mentioned the same on my talk page as well following the guideline and as you suggested. I am a company employee and joined his company three months back. This task was assigned to me about two months ago and has since been working towards fixing this issue. You seem to be very well-versed in Wikipedia guidelines and i look forward to working with you to fix this article and bring the page back.SachinShetty00 (talk) 09:57, 16 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@SachinShetty00: Wikipedia is not a place for promoting things. But I think you have learnt about how Wikipedia works and how fellow Wikipedians work. This is a voluntary service and not for payments. Any paid editing should be disclosed according to the Wikipedia policies and guidelines. You can learn how to edit Wikipedia first and if you really have COI with Saket Modi it is better that you can disclose it in your userpage. It is not wrong to edit the article that you are closely associated with but you have to be familiar with maintaining WP:NPOV and should avoid WP:PROMO. Abishe (talk) 12:00, 19 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I copied this discussion for historical purposes to Talk:Saket_Modi#Restore_article_/_COI and will follow up there. I think we need to restore the article for now until there is reason or consensus not to . -- GreenC 14:34, 19 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Indian Ambassador of Cyber Security in Education, presented at National Education Summit

[edit]

There is no question he was given this award (PDF) and it was primarily given by the AICTE. According to an earlier version of this article, "He was a part of Government of India's committee constituted in 2014 for preparation of vocational course for the new sector "Cyber Security" for National Skills Qualification Framework (NSQF) under Ministry of Human Resource Development's body AICTE." His involvement with AICTE and the award from the AICTE create a problem with independence for notability purposes. -- GreenC 16:46, 19 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

This is a student award. He was still an undergrad when he received it, the above PDF says "student award", and the awarding body is an educational body. -- GreenC 17:20, 19 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

National Entrepreneurship Award

[edit]

This was award to the company not Modi. Removed. -- GreenC 15:28, 19 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Magazine honours

[edit]

Modi has been included in numerous "40 under 40" etc.. type business magazine lists. These lists are easily manipulated with Press Releases as they are cheaply made content like any other click-bait list. See churnalism they can even be undisclosed advertising though if that is the case here is unknown. I don't believe these should be given much prominence, some may even argue for total removal but I think a single line in the awards section is sufficient for now. -- GreenC 16:15, 19 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Edit request

[edit]

Changes to this page were reverted stating they're poorly sourced even though I spent hours researching on the sources. I'm putting all the changes here so to show the sources of the additions.

Saket Modi (July 31, 1990) is an entrepreneur, co-founder, and CEO of Lucideus, a cybersecurity and digital business risk quantification company, based out of Palo Alto, California. A computer science engineer by education, he founded Lucideus in 2012 while in his final year of engineering.[1] Lucideus was incubated from IIT Bombay and backed by John T. Chambers, the former executive chairman and CEO of Cisco Systems.[2] Modi is a public speaker about ethical hacking and computer security.[3][4]

Early life

Modi was born and raised in Kolkata, India. His father is a businessman. He attended school at Lakshmipat Singhania Academy. While Modi was in high school, he led the school’s chess and table tennis teams and also earned a degree on the Grand Piano from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, London.[1]

In school, Saket was often found in the computer laboratory and it is there that he realized he could access the Chemistry question paper stored in a password protected file. By using a simple ‘brute force’ tool, which was available for free on the Internet, he was able to unlock the paper.[1] He later confessed to his teacher but this small incident helped Modi realize his potential and interest to further pursue a career in cybersecurity.[5]

In 2012, he received his undergraduate engineering degree from the LNM Institute of Information Technology, Jaipur with a major in Computer Science. As an undergraduate student, Saket conducted several hands-on workshops on ethical hacking at Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) campuses across India.[1]

Career

In 2012, while in his final year of engineering, Saket started Lucideus at the incubator of IIT Bombay, along with Vidit Baxi and Rahul Tyagi. For capital, they used their personal savings.[1] In 2013, Lucideus inaugurated its first office in New Delhi.[1] Lucideus was responsible for the end-to-end security of BHIM, the Unified Mobile based payment platform designed by the National Payments Corporation of India, Government of India.[6][2][7]

In 2017, Lucideus secured its initial round of funding with $2 million from Sri Shivananda (CTO, PayPal), Rajan Anandan (Managing Director, Sequoia Capital), Victor Menezes (ex-Senior Vice-chairman, Citibank), Vikas Agnihotri (Operating Partner, Softbank Group), Mickey Doshi (CEO, Credit Suisse, India), among others.[8][9]

Modi was introduced to John by a mutual acquaintance on the same day. An interesting anecdote is how Chambers got hooked to the concept after Modi’s 20-second pitch about Lucideus and his vision for cybersecurity - why quantification of digital business risk is the way forward.[2]

Later, John T. Chambers went on to lead the Series A funding for Lucideus of $5 million in 2018, through his personal venture arm - JC2 Ventures.[2]

In 2019, Lucideus expanded its operations to the USA and other markets in the APAC region, and shifted their headquarters to Palo Alto, California.[10]

Public appearance

He is a regular speaker on various subjects of information security and entrepreneurship at international[3][4] forums like Mobile World Congress, CeBIT (Germany), Forbes Under 30 Global Summit (Boston),[11] Confederation of Indian Industry, Cyber Tech (Israel), ASSOCHAM, Data Security Council of India, ISACA, TiE, TED (conference).[12][13]

It's not just sourcing it is promotional. Putting John T. Chambers in the lead section for example. It says he led in table tennis and chess, but the source says nothing about table tennis or chess. Nor anything about a grand piano. I looked into the grand piano claim from the original article and concluded it was a probable hoax and/or fake information. In the second paragraph, it uses the word 'brute force' in quotes, but the given source says nothing about brute force. This is when I reverted the article because it is saying things that are not in the given sources, and repeating the same that was in the original article I had previously looked into and removed for lack of verification. This is why every addition needs to be highlighted one by one, and not as a single edit, it's too difficult to determine and verify what is being added or changed. -- GreenC 15:46, 21 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the late response GreenC, I've been ill since we last spoke. I understand your concerns and I agree that editing one after the other instead of a single edit is the best option. I'd like to start with the lead section, while highlighting every single change. Is that okay? RuleYourWorld (talk) 08:24, 27 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, go ahead. -- GreenC 00:02, 30 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hi GreenC, thanks for reviewing pending edits. I needed to add two three awards that Saket won recently with reliable sources. Was wondering if i could add all them in a table to be more precise about Year, Awards, and awarding organizations. Thanks.183.87.17.208 (talk) 12:05, 19 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
The awards have been a problem in the past being overly inflated importance or from sources not well known. Pick the best most important. What are the additions? -- GreenC 02:21, 20 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • @GreenC:, thanks for your response. I had many awards to add, but i will add the most notable ones as you suggested like India's 21 Young Guns, Yuva Ratna Award. In addition, He has featured in various magazine as a Young entrepreneur that i wanted to add with year, magazine names and references.182.237.185.247 (talk) 13:03, 22 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I have prepared a table seeing other pages and i have provided references in the table itself. I will put the table right here so you could see and advise any changes it needs and then i will add them to the page.
