Chapel built by Saint Gaugericus, fact or legend?
[edit]I have not been able to verify the claim that Saint Gaugericus built a chapel in 'Saint-Géry-Island'. I cannot find any reliable reference to this in primary literature (Vita Gaugerici, MGH. Online: https://www.dmgh.de/mgh_ss_rer_merov_3/index.htm#page/(649)/mode/1up), nor in secondary literature (e.g.: L. Pietri and M. Heijmans, Prosopgraphie Chrétienne du Bas Empire 4. La Gaule Chrétienne (314-614), p. 857-859.)
The citation currently referenced does not provide proof for a construction of a chapel by Gaugericus c. 580. The possibility exists that local legend and/or popular history has mistakenly retrojected a 10th century monastic foundation back into the 6th century. The French wiki for the Église Saint-Géry backs up my suspicion: 'Selon une ancienne tradition invérifiable' (according to an unverifiable tradition). — Preceding unsigned comment added by HistoricusCrinitus (talk • contribs) 17:54, 24 September 2020 (UTC)
