Not used in India?
[edit]The term has had frequent use in India and still does as it is used by Sherpas to refer to the foreign mountaineers the Sherpas guide or support on treks or expeditions. --Bentonia School 15:31, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
Original/current meanings
[edit]The first paragraph says the word means "companion" in Arabic, and the section "Colonial and modern use" says it means "owner".
What are the actual meanings of the words, present or past, in Arabic or other languages where it has been borrowed?
Thanks! --Cotoco (talk) 09:10, 29 October 2019 (UTC)
