Notable persons
I njhh case you're wondering what's happened to the Notable persons section, it has been deleted in favor of the page Category:Subjects of the Sign of Sagittarius. If you want to add a notable person go there. --Carmelita 21:09, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
(I'm gonna cross-post this): there is absolutely no need to have a "notable persons" section. What about cuspers (people born between two signs), what would they be? If they went under both that'd take up more space. You can't list EVERY single person ever born under one sign. If you want to know what a famous person's zodiac sign or birthday is, just look up their separate article on Wikipedia. If they are famous, they should be on Wikipedia. So yeah, I'm taking out the notable persons section and I'm warning people not to readd it.
Also, I don't think it should say "this sign is compatible with ____, ____, and ___" because that's like bending NPOV. 75.27.185.204 03:07, 27 January 2007 (UTC)

Contradictions
I'd just like to make it known that the characteristics of a sagittarius read "straightforward... talks too much". I propose a minimizing of the characteristics as many of them contradict eachother. ~~ —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.24.206.138 (talk) 20:30, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
Physical Characteristics
I noticed that there were predicted physical characteristics on the Taurus and Virgo page but not on this one, why? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.131.62.226 (talk) 02:35, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
the physical characteristics are known as the hips and thighs. Often, Sagittaruis' are red heads
Traits of Sagittarius
I read the same article a couple months ago and I remember I saw a chat talking about the traits, like and dislike, weakness etc. And now I see the chat is gone. So I'm just wondering what happen to that chat and could someone please put it back on?? I personally found it is quite accurate and would be useful for people to know.72.19.102.98 (talk) 00:34, 18 February 2009 (UTC)
- It is full of lies and personal beliefs anyways. Search and do the research on your own and maybe it'll be more accurate there, not here. Someone963852 (talk) 21:49, 18 February 2009 (UTC)
But isn't there books and other things that can approve that those are some of the common trails of Sagittarius?? I'm not sure how wikipedia works, but I just thought that maybe some information like that about the Sagittarius help people understand them. I don't found that list if full of lies, many Sagittarius people would probably agree with that list.72.19.102.98 (talk) 22:05, 23 February 2009 (UTC)
- Wikipedia isn't really a good place to research about a certain sign. Random people would come here and put false stuff anyways. That's why there's things like Astrology Books, maybe try that? Someone963852 (talk) 22:09, 23 February 2009 (UTC)
It would be unnecessary for me to research on Sagittarius because I am one and I do agree with the list that was one here. That's why I just thought that it would've been useful for other since it's easier searching something on wikipedia than finding a useful Astrology Book. I feel like the page would've be more useful if it includes material like trails.72.19.102.98 (talk) 01:12, 26 February 2009 (UTC)
Compatibility
Why does the article say "Proof has to be shown though, of Sagittarius' love for another."? Considering that this is an article about astrology, why would one selectively demand proof (or rather evidence) for such a minor claim? After all, the more general claim that all people born in the same astrological month of the year share certain characteristics with one another is completely without evidence.
I suggest removing this sentence.134.169.106.141 (talk) 14:24, 29 October 2009 (UTC)
I completely agree. What does this mean "Proof has to be shown though, of Sagittarius' love for another." and where did this line come from? sifelaver 16:50, 16 November 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Sifelaver (talk • contribs)

Collapsing pre 2010 discussion
Sagittarius IS a mutable sign
Whoever said that Sagittarius is incompatible with water and earth signs because they are "mutable" is incorrect. While it is true that Sagittarius (as all fire - and air- signs) are not compatible with water and earth signs, this is actually due to the fact that water/earth signs are introverted feminine signs, which is NOT the same as 'mutable'. 'Mutable' actually has to do with the seasons the sign is in, and Sagittarius actually is a mutable sign itself. I can definitely source this - look it up anywhere - . I guess it is an easy mistake to make, as the word 'mutable' incorrectly leads one to think of the verb "to mute" and mistakenly associate it with 'femininity' or 'introvert', however, this is incorrect. Mutability in astrology has nothing to do with the sign's gender (masculininty/femininity). Sagittarius IS an extroverted masculine fire sign, yes, however, it is also one of the four mutable signs (Gemini is another one - and note that Gemini is NOT a water or earth sign either). Of course, also, the same applies to all other signs of all elements -not all water and earth signs are mutable. I personally cannot be bothered to change it - I'm too lazy - so can someone PLEASE correct this? If it is not corrected very soon, then I guess I'll do it myself, but I really hope I won't have to. :-) Cheers. Ammau (talk) 01:14, 20 October 2010 (UTC)
Virgo?
Last line reads "The dates that the Sun traverses the sign of Virgo according to the Sidereal system are therefore (generally) between December 16 to January 14 each year." Are these dates correct/ And on this page this should refer to sidereal Sagittarius not Virgo. I am not sure how to edit it without affecting the template, if it is on a template. Robert Currey talk 14:10, 27 August 2011 (UTC)
- It wasn't in a template but I changed it, so not problem now. -- Zac Δ talk! 06:46, 3 September 2011 (UTC)
Mythology
I added quite a bit of content but notice that this page doesn't have a mythology section. Most other pages do. Is anyone able to contribute to this? -- Zac Δ talk! 06:46, 3 September 2011 (UTC)
Removing cruft
I have removed some WP:INUNIVERSE content, which appeared to treat whimsical astrological "compatibility" with a straight face, and I also did some slight rephrasing to make it clear that some claims are what astrologers believe, rather than statements of fact. Please refrain from kneejerk reverting; if you feel you have a good reason for the old wording to be in the article, feel free to discuss it here or at WP:FTN. bobrayner (talk) 23:55, 26 November 2011 (UTC)
- Sorry, but your edit removed much much more than you claimed, and since the information was referenced and explaining astrological beliefs, the use of a negative adjective does not justify an edit like that, not a page like this - which is here to explain and reporting the use of this sign in astrology. Before removing content which is reliable and verifiable, please discuss here any comment you don't like and explain (properly) your reasons why. Be specific, so other editorss can understand your objections and consider if it is possible to adapt the text to accomodate them.-- Zac Δ talk! 08:57, 28 November 2011 (UTC)
- The material you reverted back into the article (diff) is not encyclopedic. Wikipedia is not available for in-universe fancruft copied from astrological websites or books. Eventually, these articles will be made encyclopedic, and the result may be more satisfactory if astrological enthusiasts were to participate in the required cleanup. Beliefs relating to Sagittarius belong in the article, if kept in moderation (to be included, per WP:DUE, a belief would need to be verifiably commonly held by astrologers). To avoid clumsy writing, it is not necessary to label every belief as "astrologers believe that...", but it is not satisfactory to use Wikipedia's voice to blithely assert things like "Sagittarius is seasonally associated with the transition from autumnal moisture to mid-winter dryness...describing an instinct toward change and an easy ability to modify or adapt to the demands of the environment". The table of "Definitions and Associations" is pure fancruft. Perhaps half of the content could be written in prose form (no table) in one suitable article. Redirection of Western Zodiac signs
On 22 October 2012 the contents of the articles for the individual signs of the western zodiac (Pisces (astrology) etc.) were removed and replaced with redirects to Astrological sign#Western zodiac signs. These edits were made by User:Dominus Vobisdu with the edit summary: Unsourced and unsourceable cruft. No justification for stand-alone article. This did not seem to follow a community discussion.
Following concerns raised at the Reference Desk I will, after posting this, restore the articles to the form they were in immediately before their redirection. At least some of the articles seem to have been significantly reduced in size also prior to this redirection, however I have not reverted these changes.
Because I am sure editors may wish to discuss this (perhaps to reinstate the redirects, or make other changes to these articles), however a discussion spread among the talk pages twelve articles in question would be too dissipated, I suggest Talk:Astrological_sign#Redirection_of_Western_Zodiac_signs as a centralised discussion location. An editor with more experience than I in Wikipedia policies may wish to move this discussion to a better location. LukeSurl t c 15:22, 23 October 2012 (UTC)
Just a note; it seems ridiculous that I can find a wealth of information on the astrological interpretations of these signs elsewhere on the internet, and yet Wikipedia has no usable information about what (I'd expect) 90% of the people come to this page for. I feel strongly that these pages should contain the Western astrological interpretations of these signs (in terms of character traits, etc), voiced in a way that makes it clear they are not mainstream nor scientific concepts. Regardless of the truth behind these concepts, this is what people come to this encyclopedia for, and they reasonably expect to learn about the traditional interpretations. Cuttycuttiercuttiest (talk) 07:03, 10 March 2016 (UTC)
Why does this article remain almost empty?
Most other signs have very detailed information. Is there a reason why for example the Notable people chapter of the talk page is not included in the main article? Or at least a "personality traits" section would be easy to write... Is it just lack of interest? — Preceding unsigned comment added by OKimonas (talk • contribs) 05:03, 20 March 2016 (UTC)
Corrections to dates, date and citation format in sign articles
I have created a module which encapulates values for the dates the Sun enters and exits the various signs; the data is taken from the U.S. Naval Observatory's Multiyear Interactive Computer Almanac and covers 2015 through most of 2050. The Template:Zodiac date produces some erroneous results, so I hope to implement the change this week.
It is only practical to implement one date and citation style for the module and infobox, so it would be helpful if we can agree on what format to use for the various sign articles. Please discuss at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Astrology#Corrections to dates, date and citation format in sign articles. Jc3s5h (talk) 21:04, 23 March 2016 (UTC)
Wrong picture
As far as I know, mythology depicts Sagittarius as a centaur(Chiron) which has front legs of a human and not of a horse. Like in this picture : https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/95/Amphora_1956,1220-1.jpg — Preceding unsigned comment added by 178.148.196.135 (talk) 11:56, 6 June 2016 (UTC)
Picture not appropriate
Because the constellation of Sagittarius is represented by the mythological creature called Crotus. The current picture is the representation of another constellation called Centaurus. Please replace it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.116.180.249 (talk) 18:35, 31 May 2017 (UTC)
Dates?
Does Sagittarius start on Nov. 22 or 23? Both Zodiac and Scorpio (astrology) say that Scorpio ends on the 22nd and Sagittarius starts on the 23rd. - First off, this is a stale thread; and it isn't usually useful to restart stale threads.
- Second, there is a general-purpose discussion of the issue at talk:Zodiac#Western Sun sign tutorial.
- Third, as that discussion indicates, there are various ways to figure out the date. If you have a particular location on Earth and a particular year in mind, there is only one correct answer. But if you're putting it in an encyclopedia as a approximate date for readers all over the world, which won't be revised for years or decades, there are many ways to go about figuring out some sort of average value. That's why, in Wikipedia, it's essential to state the source that figured out the date. The article currently lacks a citation to a reliable source to support the statement
Under the tropical zodiac, the sun transits this sign between approximately November 23 and December 21.
I encourage LightHopeCrystal to find a reliable source and cite it. The articles for the other astrological signs have sources which might be used. Also, all the astrological sign articles use the same system of citations, so the same templates may be used. Jc3s5h (talk) 15:46, 6 October 2018 (UTC)
a suggestion I think we need to work on...
I think the two tables of features associated with the sign need to be merged into one table... i will set about this... as at the moment, both tables contain information of varying degrees, with the same information in face inputted twice on various points. 84.13.139.243 (talk) 21:38, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
Sagittarius: Dec. 17 to Jan. 20 the date has changed due to the two newly discovered signs
If you’re thinking about one of those as Ophiuchus, that’s not a real sign; it’s a constellation.[1] Therefore, we should keep the Sagittarius dates where they are and not change the total number of zodiac signs to anything but twelve. Pf1127 (talk) 18:49, 20 April 2020 (UTC)
