Birth year

The month/day 17 December seems pretty well supported by:

and nobody has disputed it, but that ref does not mention anything about the year. The year has been changed periodically, typically 1972 or 1979, or removed altogether as unsourced. At one point, 1979 was sourced with an edit-summary "per his documents", but no actual documents were cited, and government or similar papers are not BLP-RS anyway. On 24 February 2023, a reliable-seeming source was finally provided[1] for 1979

According to that ref via the wayback machine at the time[2] with the article byline 22/23 February 2023, the article's own title+intro and URL said he was 50 at that time. Doing something at age 50 in Feb 2023 supports a birth-year of 1972. But that article was then changed. Later, the article appears to have been changed to say he was 43 in Feb 2023, which instead supports a birth-year of 1979. The recent addition of 1979+cite is clearly good faith, as that's what the ref said at the time. I notice the contradiction in its title vs URL. The article does not mention the content-change or itself have any cite for the year. Therefore, I am casting doubt on the reliability of this source for this piece of data. Per BLP, we need something that doesn't silently change its claims with no corroborating evidence for either year. So I have removed it altogether from the article.

I am putting down myself as a strong opponent of inclusion until we get something much more reliable than celebrity gossip, social media, or misc soft reporting. Especially for this subject, there are often vested interests in making someone seem older or younger than they actually are, and BLP demands reliable sourcing. I fear (but "oh well") that this may wind up eternally unsourceable to high enough standard, as these sorts of claims have an echo-chamber among sources. I am giving some sources and references which prove that Sachin Shroff's birth year is 1972.

I've removed several sites from the list above that are spammy scraper sites. I've marked a couple of others as tag / topic searches and not reliable. No comment on any other sources, but would really prefer to see sources from strong news sites, not tabloidish junk sites. Ravensfire (talk) 14:06, 26 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
