Inaccuracies in infobox

[edit]

Hello! I was reading this article when I realized inaccuracies regarding Rob Walton's marital status and children. The clearest picture I was able to find online that can be sourced is this story on SuccessStory.com.

Mr. Walton's three children are from his first marriage to Patricia Rawlings. He later married Carolyn Funk, and divorced in 2002. Today, he is married to Melani Walton. I prepared a draft updated infobox below:

Are there editors who can assist with this? I will not direct edit this page because I have a Wikipedia:Conflict of interest; I work with the Walton family office, as I disclosed on my user page and declared above. Thanks, Kt2011 (Talk · COI:Walton family) 17:58, 15 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think I'll have the time to assist, but I have removed the stuff about spouses and children that was cited to Serwer, because as far as I can tell none of this is in the cited source. Others may disagree, but my reading of WP:BLP is that you would be allowed to do this yourself if the material is contentious and not properly sourced. In other words BLP trumps COI. Hi, Kendall-K1. Thank you for adjusting the infobox. I will keep this edit request open to see if other editors might want to review. Also, thanks for the COI-BLP tip. Because of my COI, I still think it best for me to refrain from any direct edits. Thanks! Kt2011 (Talk · COI:Walton family) 21:18, 20 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Infobox updates

[edit]

Hi! I have two small updates for the infobox.

  • Mr. Walton retired as chairman of Walmart's board
  • He is married to Melani Walton

I have prepared an updated infobox with citations to verify these two points. Are there any editors available who can assist?

Incorrect birthdate

[edit]

Hi! It has been a while since I've made a request here, and today I'd like to ask about correcting Rob Walton's birthdate.

  • The article currently says his birthday is on October 28
  • His birthday is actually on October 27

When I first considered making this request, I realized every source I could find to verify his birthday had it wrong. I now have a source that correctly reports his birthday as October 27: CBS Colorado. Is this enough to change his birthday in the article? User:GRuban, tagging you here and would welcome your input.

I will not direct edit this page because I have a Wikipedia:Conflict of interest; I work with the Walton family office, as I disclosed on my user page and declared above. Thanks, Kt2011 (Talk · COI:Walton family) 21:45, 23 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Kt2011: Are you sure? I mean, CBS is normally a fine source, but it's not really going into detail how it knows this, it just says "A few background facts noted by various publications:" - clearly they did not do a great deal of fact checking. Now, if the man himself came to you and said "Kt, old boy, would be ever so good as to correct that birthdate on the Wikipedia article to the 28th, dashed nuisance, you know, there's a good chap" (OK, that's more Bertie Wooster, but I've never actually met a billionaire), then we'll go with that. But if you don't have any real knowledge, just prefer the CBS source to the other source for some other reason ... I'd hate to have to change it again if yet a third source shows up saying it's the 26th or something. --GRuban (talk) 20:22, 5 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@GRuban: Haha! Can't say you exactly nailed his voice, but I appreciate the humor :) And yes, indeed, this was a personal request from him. Thanks for all your help! Kt2011 (Talk · COI:Walton family) 19:00, 7 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
 Done --GRuban (talk) 22:29, 7 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@GRuban: Thanks very much! The Introduction still has October 28. If it's not too much trouble, would you mind updating that, too? Kt2011 (Talk · COI:Walton family) 20:34, 8 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Done again. Thanks for checking. --GRuban (talk) 20:39, 8 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Birthday

[edit]

Hi! I noticed that on May 28 an anonymous editor changed Rob's birthday back to October 28 in the article introduction and Early life and family. As discussed and confirmed here, Rob Walton's birthday is October 27. Would someone mind changing this back for me? I will not direct edit this page because I have a Wikipedia:Conflict of interest; I work with the Walton family office, as I disclosed on my user page and declared above. @GRuban: Tagging you here since you worked with me to fix his birthday previously. Thanks, Kt2011 (Talk · COI:Walton family) 20:35, 1 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Done Next time just revert it yourself. Lightoil (talk) 02:27, 2 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
He can't, he's got a conflict of interest, and it isn't clearcut vandalism. --GRuban (talk) 17:40, 2 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
