Merge to Vendange tardive?
[edit]After looking for some material to expand this into a potential DYK, I'm begining to wonder if this topic will expand much beyond stub. If not then maybe we should consider a merge into the VT article where it would benefit from the larger context. Any thoughts? AgneCheese/Wine 22:55, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
- Well, I fully understand your thinking, although the title could be clumsy - perhaps Vendange tardive and Sélection de grains nobles or Late harvest wine styles primarily found in Alsace but also in some other French-speaking wine regions :-) ? While primarily Alsace designations in my eye, if VT & SGN were only Alsace phenomena, we could go a step further than merging them with each other; redirects to a section in the Alsace wine article would be enough. But it seems that VT and SGN designations do not necessarily follow each other in other regions. I've seen SGN on several bottles from Loire (and verified the drinkability of the contents of at least one), but never VT. On the other hand, VT, but not SGN, is an official designation in Luxembourg (a country which so far hasn't been graced with its own enwiki wine article; I've been thinking of going there on a factfinding mission sometime this year). So it comes down to the same argument as for e.g. Beerenauslese - when the designation is used in several countries/regions with slightly different definitions/requirements (Germany and in Austria in the case of BA), it's less obvious that they can me merged somewhere else without the loss of information. Also, separate articles on VT & SGN allows easy links between those and the German Prädikats which most closely follows them. But persistent rumors say that anyone can edit Wikipedia, so I suppose I have to say I'm open to suggestions. :-) Tomas e (talk) 23:27, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
- True but I'm not sure if there would be that much confusion under the single VT name. If the SGN redirect takes a person looking for the Loire Valley use of the term, it would become pretty clear the context. (Though another option would French late harvest wines). I am also in favor of merging the German/Austria designation into one place as well. :) Not only to eliminate stubs but I also think there is some benefit to have relevant and similar information in the same place. Might I add that if you do take your fact finding mission to Loire, I will be 'sooooooooooooooo jealous, Tomas. :p You will simply have to take lot of picture and sample tons of fabulous wines so that I can live vicariously through your experiences. :) AgneCheese/Wine 23:37, 13 February 2008 (UTC)
