There seems to be a lot of confusion over the two species Pomatorhinus erythrocnemis and Pomatorhinus erythrogenys, with each being considered a subspecies of the other depending on the classification. Each of the articles on the two species claims, for instance, that it occurs on Taiwan, whereas, in fact, there is only one species on Taiwan, and whether you call it P. erythrocnemis or P. erythrogenys depends on your taxonomic stance. It would be useful if this article made an attempt to untangle the taxonomic confusion. Incidentally, I checked Avibase ([1]), but all I could find was splits within splits!
