"honorary" legion
[edit]Is there a source that it's every called the "Honorary Russian Legion" in English? "Legion d'honneur" is universally translated into English as "legion of honour", and "honorary" has a specific meaning in English that includes a connotation of "not really". (For instance, an "honorary member" is not really a member of whatever group is being discussed.) I've never seen it called anything other than Russian Legion in English, but if we were to insist on a literal translation of the full French name, "Russian Legion of Honour" would seem more true to the meaning.
