Generally an article should mention some reason why the person is considered sufficiently notable to be the subject of a Wikipedia article BEFORE going into biographical details. Often this is in the first sentence (e.g. "John Xmith is a Slobovian mathematician who solved the celebrated Hilbert's 24th problem, which had withstood the efforts of many mathematicians since the year 1900.").
