Ethnicity

[edit]

User:Slickmoves and User:Lorreroute have been edit warring over this for the past month, so it needs to be discussed here now. One is contesting that Provodnikov is ethnically Mansi on both sides, whilst the other says he is half Russian. Because both users have reverted each other numerous times now, it's time to settle it here before taking it to WP:DR. Over to you two. Mac Dreamstate (talk) 01:09, 12 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Mac Dreamstate I have asked Ruslan personally. Until then, I have told User:Lorreroute to leave the article as it is. He has no leg to stand on regardless as Ruslan says in the article I trust most that he has a Russian father but feels Mansi, in the Russian articles he mentions being from a large Mansi family which is true. But he never denies having a Russian father. I think its clear who is right here and it shouldn't be an issue, but like I have said we will hear from Ruslan soon and he can settle it. Until then, my source is more accurate and has a section entirely about his ethnicity. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Slickmoves (talkcontribs) 00:43, 23 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I forget how WP's policy works regarding which sources have priority over others, but the English-language source provided by you (1) looks concrete enough in that Provodnikov himself has clearly stated what he is. I'm quite sure User:Lorreroute's three Russian-language sources get trumped by that. He/she claims the BoxingScene interview is unreliable.. well, how is it unreliable? It's right there in plain text: one Russian parent, one Mansi parent, and self-identifies as Mansi. Mac Dreamstate (talk) 00:55, 23 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
That source is unreliable because there are several sources where Ruslan stated a different thing. Why would several sources get trumped by a single source Slickmoves provided. If three sources aren't enough then I can gather even more sources saying the same thing. Since Slickmoves claims to have contacted and asked Ruslan personally, I guess he now knows that Ruslan is Mansi on both sides. So I suggest he reverts his edit himself, and soon. Or else I will have to do it. And just to let you know Mac Dreamstate, this user Slickmoves made many fallacious claims in his edit summaries. Here's a very ignorant snip of his latest edit summary on this article:
  • "Why the Russian surname then"
Here Slickmoves is just proving again how ignorant he is of the Mansi people. Most Mansi individuals have surnames that are undistinguishable from Russian surnames. In Russia that's the case with most ethnic minorities that are Orthodox Christians. Lorreroute (talk) 20:49, 26 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Before you go reverting User:Slickmoves yet again, and contributing to an edit war which remains unsettled, I strongly suggest that the issue be taken to the reliable sources noticeboard. There we can get opinions from uninvolved editors on how to deal with these conflicting sources. I can start the topic there if you're both in. Are you both in? Mac Dreamstate (talk) 20:58, 26 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It's not "conflicting sources", it's a single conflicting source. There's numerous sources saying one thing, and his one and only source saying another thing. Lorreroute (talk) 12:58, 27 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Regardless, it's a content dispute. You have your sources (in Russian) and he has his (in English). You can keep dismissing his source all you want, but you have yet to prove how it is unreliable, other than your non-English sources saying otherwise. Since neither of you are budging, this needs other editors to get involved. We can either go to Dispute Resolution or Reliable Sources Noticeboard. Which is it?
