[edit]This should not be translated as 'mermaid'. It's impossible to translate this word into English or any other language. This is how most dictionaries translate the word, but it's completely wrong. The rusalka is an entirely different creature and manifests in a way very particular to ancient Russian/Ukrainian tradition.
