Current status: Good article

Standstill

[edit]

I wanted to add this sentence

The title is spelled as Running to Standstill on some releases. This shifts the meaning of the title somewhat, standstill being a noun, while stand still is a ???

when I realized that I don't know what should be in the place of the ???. Does anyone know? MrTroy 22:05, 1 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I've never seen it spelled that way on anything official. The new article does elaborate on the meaning of the title. Wasted Time R (talk) 12:51, 4 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Image

[edit]

Does anybody happen to have an image of the band playing the song from the ZooTV or Vertigo Tours? Considering its size the article seems to be a bit devoid of much outside of text. I think a live image would help the article out a bit. MelicansMatkin (talk, contributions) 01:52, 7 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I looked through my far-away-and-dark photos that everyone loves here so much, but the one Vertigo Tour show I saw where it was played, I didn't take a photo of it. Otherwise it would already be in the article, then out of the article, then ... ;-) There are a bunch of photos of it on Flickr, but the only one with any kind of CC license was this one from a Vertigo show in Boston, and as I understand it it has some license attributes that aren't compatible with Wikipedia. Another good thing to have would be one of those 30-second ogg audio clips, but I haven't done one of those before and don't have an MP3 of the song to start with. Wasted Time R (talk) 02:27, 7 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, I know Merbabu went to a couple of ZooTV shows; maybe he has an old image of it he'd be able to upload? Suede67 might be able to help with the audio sample; he's done a few from No Line on the Horizon for me, and he probably has the song. I'll try to find a good spot that can relate to something important in the article and ask him if he'd be able to work that for us. MelicansMatkin (talk, contributions) 03:03, 7 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Edit: I've listened to the song and I think that for our purposes, 1:22 to 1:47 would work best. This fits inside the 10% rule and covers not only the musical style described but also the lyrics "Sweeter the sin, the bitter the taste in my mouth / I see seven towers but I only see one way out / You've got to cry without weeping, talk without speaking...". MelicansMatkin (talk, contributions) 03:10, 7 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Seems good to me. I have photos from Zoo TV too, but nothing involving that song. Wasted Time R (talk) 03:13, 7 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, Suede67 cut and added the audio sample (thanks very much!); what do you think? MelicansMatkin (talk, contributions) 03:42, 7 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Looks good to me, and I thanked Suede67, and thanks to you for setting it up. Wasted Time R (talk) 04:00, 7 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
As I just said to Melicans, I once had a whole roll of 36 photos from B-stage at ZooTV Sydney (yeah, a whole 36 photos in 2 hours was pretty extravagant back then) but I can't find either the negatives or prints. They've been lost over the years. :-( Thus, kinda ironic when the whole concert is on DVD (which I'm in) and we still don't have useable images. The night before (when Adam was hung over) I was in the stalls and Bono fell and sang the song on his back. --Merbabu (talk) 06:26, 7 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The person who took the 2005 photo previously mentioned has been kind enough to change the license to CC-BY-SA, so it can now be used and is in the article. Wasted Time R (talk) 04:44, 11 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Awesome article!

[edit]

That's it, but seriously, for a song article, I got 10x more out of the song than I ever did! --Leahtwosaints (talk) 12:40, 15 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks ... Wasted Time R (talk) 12:50, 15 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

GA Review

I recently did a review of Ultraviolet (Light My Way), and the issues I have with this article are pretty much the same as with that one. But I guess these are standards you U2-editors have arrived at through long practice, so I won't argue too much about it. Also, I felt that the part about the popularity of the term tended a bit towards WP:OR.

These aren't serious enough issues to prevent a GA promotion, however. The article is well written, well referenced and well structured. Good job! Lampman (talk) 10:07, 5 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

OK, thanks very much for the review and the pass! Wasted Time R (talk) 10:51, 5 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
