To uphold the quality of Wikipedia:Good articles, all articles listed as Good articles are being reviewed against the GA criteria as part of the GA project quality task force. While all the hard work that has gone into this article is appreciated, unfortunately, as of September 6, 2009, this article fails to satisfy the criteria, as detailed below. For that reason, the article has been delisted from WP:GA. However, if improvements are made bringing the article up to standards, the article may be nominated at WP:GAN. If you feel this decision has been made in error, you may seek remediation at WP:GAR.

• The most serious problem with this article is its lack of citations, thus failing GA criterion 2. The prose also needs some attention as well, to meet GA criterion 1.

Lead

• "Rugby league is a team sport in England." Rugby League is clearly a team sport elsewhere as well.

• "... where the amateur game is particularly powerful". What does "powerful mean? Popular?

• "The game is played outside of these traditional areas but in far lower numbers". Ungrammatical.

• "... attendance at Super League games and participation in the sport has increased from 114,000 to 285,000". Between when and when? Linking attendance and participation in this way makes it seem like all spectators also play the game.

Early years

• "The first international match was played in 1904 as England was beaten 9-3 at Wigan ...". So while England was being beaten, the first international match was being played elsewhere?

Post-war

• The article starts to become seriously uncited from this section onwards; four of this section's six sections are completely unsourced.

• "Britain won the Ashes for the last time in 1970". We haven't been told what "the Ashes" is. Shouldn't it be "The Ashes" anyway?

Eighties and onwards

• "The All-Party Parliamentary Rugby League Group was formed in 1987 to support the sport of rugby league and tackle the key issues facing the game in Parliament." What problems was the game facing in Parliament?

• "The above sentence also contains an external link that should be converted to an inline citation; external links should only appear in the External links section.

• "The 1982 Kangaroos won all their tour games ...". Who are the "Kangaroos"?

Open Age Competitions

• This section is completely uncited.

Player awards

• Completely uncited.

Defunct competitions

• Completely uncited.

Derbies

• Completely uncited.

Popularity

• "Rugby league is considered by most English people to be a regional sport, which perhaps prevents rugby league making further inroads in to the English psyche in the South, and those cities which already thrive on soccer, and to a lesser extent, cricket and rugby union." Doesn't make sense.

Radio

• This is just a list, needs to be recast as prose.

Cinema

• Another completely uncited section.

England

• The only citation in this section is an external link, which should be converted to an inline citation. The rest of the material needs to be cited as well.

Great Britain

• Uncited.

Rugby league and race

• "Rugby league has had a tradition of being inclusive and for some notable firsts in terms of black participation." Who says so? Is RL in some way unique in that respect?

• This whole section needs to be rewritten, not just a series of consecutive one sentence paragraphs.
