Please do not delete this page. While both the middle and high schools are technically under the same umbrella, they are in separate buildings and have different characteristics. The middle years program deserves its own Wikipedia page.--Zkomes (talk) 06:54, 16 November 2012 (UTC)
Previous RKMS
[edit]FYI, this article is not complete, historically speaking. I think it is most appropriate here because, although the physical location is different, the name "Rufus King Middle School" is what those searching for info on it will most likely use instead of the address.
Back in the 1970s, Rufus King HS became a magnet (college prep) school and added a Middle School program (as far as I know, it ran from 1978-1981) at the 1801 W. Olive campus (the HS program was run side-by-side with it). As far as I can recall, the original RKMS was ended in 1981, but I don't know why. The RKHS College Prep program continued, including the IB program.
I tried to find some information on the original RKMS but, aside from incidental mention of it on places like Classmates.com, I couldn't find anything. I would imagine microfilm records in Milwaukee and Wisconsin newspapers would have plenty of mention of RKMS. RK ranked on tests as the top public school in the city and beat out most private schools, too, in addition to performing very well in basketball (state champs at least once), choir and other competitions, as well as getting critical acclaim for some of its musicals and other performances.
I realize that documentation of these facts is required. Unfortunately, I divested myself of all the memorabilia from my time at RKMS and RKHS, aside from my class ring, so I cannot help - especially since I live in Indonesia now.
I will make mention of this information in the RKHS talk page, too.ReveurGAM (talk) 04:34, 11 January 2015 (UTC)
