Nebel was something of a rascal, I don't know how many of those stories you want. At one point, he proposed hiding a solid fuel engine in a liquid-fuel rocket so they could actually get a demo to work.

The Magdeburg project was a bizarre story. It was financed by a crazy religious cult who believed that the earth was the inside of a sphere ("geokosmos"), and they wanted to test this theory by flying in a rocket form on side of the sphere, up, to the other side.
