Re-establishment in 1948?
[edit]With newspapers, unable to understand what the Naval Board was actually re-establishing. Was the RANVR ever decommissioned, or was this a rejuvenation? May have to resort to Hansard (electronically only back to 2003). Q8682 (talk) 03:51, 7 June 2020 (UTC)
Redesign of awardees?
[edit]Changing the title to 'Honours and awards' suggests unit rather than personnel recognition. However could create a table (with sort function), similar to the George Medal recipients.
- First + Last Name | State of residence | Rank (and age at the time) | Award | Award citation+Reference | Month-Year
List by prioritised award then alphabetical by surname. I think age at time of the achievement is important.
Should 'Lt' be expanded to 'Lieutenant' in all instances?
Awards should relate to RANVR involvement. Have to make assumptions though, so that in 1971, Lt-Cmdr NICHOLS' MBE was specific to his RANVR work and not otherwise.
So much more work in this area to find awardees, to find first occasions of an award, The London Gazette citation, create pages about some of these people, etc. Putting in their full name, rather than initials (helps distinguish people, and service numbers are not usually cited in papers). Should be more than lines of names, but an explanation of contribution(s).
Add tag 'Royal Australian Naval Volunteer Reserve' when using Trove. Creating a master table in Excel, and then porting across (e.g. have a column with '|-') as text, may help. Will require a good think either way.
Someone else have time?! Q8682 (talk) 03:51, 7 June 2020 (UTC)
- Converted to table, sortable, and checked the Help re date sorting tips. Hopefully more versatile. Will make it easier for others to add to it as well. BTW, created an Excel table, some formulas, then copy/paste certain columns into Word and convert ^t to ^p. Excel helped for sorting, checking, ensuring consistency, easy use of '<REF name=' tagging too. Q8682 (talk) 14:42, 7 June 2020 (UTC)
Places of residence

BOUCAUT
[edit]As a point of note while Lt BOUCAUT is a native of Glenelg, Adelaide, South Australia, he started work then married in Western Australia. While most newspaper articles attribute him to South Australia (where there is proud family lineage), was admitted to the bar in 1935, and then lived and enlisted there in Western Australia.Trove Please do not adjust. UPTON
[edit]UPTON lived in Victoria, but enlisted in Brisbane, Queensland. He later ran a business in Brisbane. Would suggest he was considered a Victorian until after the war. Q8682 (talk) 22:35, 7 June 2020 (UTC)
