YES because he was not a perfect man but because he grew to be a solid father, husband, businessman. One story I heard was that Rogers stopped enjoying an occasional beer (during the height of his TV film popularity) because he was concerned about how his public example might affect the millions of kids who followed him. His values, beliefs are not outdated---our culture is suffering mostly because we have pushed away from sound values.Lindisfarnelibrary (talk) 13:32, 8 October 2009 (UTC)

What was the show about?

See The Roy Rogers Show. The IMDB entry is at [1]. [2] gives brief summaries of all the episodes. There was humor, but adventure was the theme, with chases and fights, crooks and rustlers, bankrobbers, spies and swindlers. The sidekicks did lots of broad humor, like Pat Brady saying to his jeep, "Come on, Nellybelle, don't let me down now" or Gabby Hayes, bearded rustic, saying "Yur durn tootin'!" I removed this Roy Rogers from Category:Slide guitarists, and started a page for Roy Rogers (guitarist). If you notice any links here from album credits (especially where some sort of slide guitar is played) please make any needed corrections! -MrFizyx 05:03, 22 March 2007 (UTC) My Dad is looking for a movie titled, "Old Man and The Kid". Consumate Killer

It would increase the viability of the article to mention RR's museum (now closed) in Victorville, and, Roy's desire to kill two of every animal from shrew to elephant and beyond.

It might also be relevant to produce information about his treatment of indigenous people, especially the eskimo of Kotzebue, Alaska and various African natives.

This article seems to portray this complex and not necessarily pleasant person in a one dimensional sketch.

I would agree to a certain extent, certainly the article should include "warts and all". Apparently the museum was just moved to Branson MO (there is a link to the museum website). I visited the one in Victorville several years ago at the insistence of some family members and about all I remember (other than the stuffed Trigger) is thinking it was a monument to a big ego. I don't know anything about his "desire to kill" or his treatment of indigenous peoples but if there are reliable sources and it is presented in a NPOV manner feel free to add it. The contents of the Roy Rogers Museum were auctioned off less than six years after its relocation to Branson, MO from Victorville, CA. The aucton was held in July, 2009, with many items sold off to private bidders. RFD TV was the high bidder on the taxidermied Trigger and Bullet the dog. This is a good article, but needs updating.

Contradictory description of becoming Roy Rogers.

"Slye was immediately rechristened "Roy Rogers". Actually, there was a competition for a new singing cowboy, and many western singers sought the job, including Willie Phelps of the Phelps brothers who appeared in early western movies. Slye ended up winning the contest and became Roy Rogers." So was it immediate, or after a competition? I'll look into this. Dgndenver (talk) 06:29, 17 April 2016 (UTC)

Help Wanted: Triggerologist

Work needs to be done reconciling the conflicting birth years given for Trigger (currently 1932 here but 1934 in Trigger (horse)); and, surely, Trigger's chronologically correct location in a RR biography should be based on the date(s) of his renaming and acquisition by RR, not the year of his birth, whichever it may be. The article has conflicting info regarding his wives. At one point it refers to his "third wife Dale Evans" (birth name: Frances Octavia Smith) but another time it says she was his 2nd wife. IMDB says his 1st wife was "Lucile Ascolese (8 May 1933 - ?) (divorced)" / b-westerns.com says their divorce was finalized on 8 June 1936 .. only a few days before he married wife #2: IMDB says his 2nd wife was "Arline Wilkins (14 June 1936 - 3 November 1946) (her death) 3 children"

Birthplace

The article currently references Riverfront Stadium in Cincinnati, OH. (His being born on second base.) Riverfront Stadium was demolished in December of 2002 (See also: Wikipedia article on Riverfront Stadium) and a new stadium, The Great American Ballpark, was erected on approximately the same site. However, the exact relative location is unknown to me. Perhaps the article should be updated on this very minor detail. CincinnatiBill (talk) 12:47, 19 September 2017 (UTC)
