birth year

[edit]

Source for birth year is California Birth Index: Name: Roxann Caballero Birth Date: 11 Sep 1958 Gender: Female Mother's Maiden Name: Flores Birth County: Los Angeles Questors 16:31, 20 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Paramount Pictures and Roxann Dawson's publicist both give her birth year as 1964.

You know, sometimes they LIE about stuff like that.--130.65.240.74 20:54, 25 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What reason would there be for them to lie?, until they say otherwise I think her birthdate should remain 1964.

They lie about this all the time. Here's something to read.--Fallout boy 03:37, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I should also point out that nowhere on the offical Star Trek site or her own does it say she was born in 1964. The only offical fact is that her birthday is September 11. On another note, UCB says she is a 1980 graduate [1]. It is possible that this is erroneous information that was never corrected.--Fallout boy 05:35, 1 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That is still not reason enough to change her birthdate, if Paramount and her publicist give that date then that's the one that should be accepted. (Personally, if going by her looks is anything to go by, there is no way she was born in 1958.)

Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a fan site. If 1964 isn't her real date of birth, it isn't going to be used. As for "not enough reason"? Her birth certificate and graduation year are plenty of reasons enough, and are certainly trustworthy. If you can find a concrete reason she was born in 1964, provide it.--Fallout boy 20:31, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

And altering another user's posts (changing Questors's) on a talk page is considered hostile and uncivil and could lead to your IP being blocked. --Fallout boy 20:36, 27 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

On another note, seems unlikely the Daniel Graham linked (pro football player) is the right one... either need another page or remove the link? --The preceding unsigned comment by 150.101.171.157

I contacted Dana, the webmaster of www.roxanndawson.net and asked her about Roxann's birthdate because I was confused to what her true date is. After I sent the e-mail she contacted Roxann and told me that Roxann herself confirmed to her that she turned 40 in 2004 and that her birthdate is 1964...Now I know that's not enough evidence to change her birthdate, but I am still not sure what to believe, I can't see Roxann telling lies and to be honest going by her looks she doesn't look 48. But there is evidence to prove she was born in 1958...Dana is going to get in touch with her again and she is waiting on permission to put up her birthdate on the offical site that she was born in 1964. -- The preceding unsigned comment by 172.212.50.175
For the time being, I put 1958 and 1964 on the page. Until there is a reasonable explanation for the discrepancy, I'd leave both.--Fallout boy 22:37, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]
A copy Star Trek The Magazine in 2000 did an article on Jeri Ryan and Roxann Dawson. The article featured information on the TV Guides sexiest stars in the universe covers and they quoted that Roxann Dawson was 35 years old. (35 years old in the year 2000), making her 42 in September 2006 and born in September 1964...
FHM did an article on Roxann, they say her age at that time was 34.http://www.roxanndawson.net/fhm.html
But there is no rationale for how they arrived at that. Anyway, if Roxann or her people don't give a response within this month I'd remove 1964 from her possible year of birth (and even if they do put 1964 on her website as her "official" age with no response to the 1958 evidence, I'd still be very skeptical)--Fallout boy 09:12, 6 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
More Birthdate Confusion...

Coincedences can happen with peoples names and birthdates. When checking out Terry Farrell's (Jadzia Dax) biography on imdb.com and the birthdatabase, I discovered that there is a Theresa Lee Farrell there born on 19th November, but she is not born in 1963 as listed on all major sites, but 1965. Now I find it hard to believe that Terry would want to lie about her age making herself older than she is... To be honest I am not sure that these birthdatabase websites are all that reliable. The Roxann Biggs listed on Birthdatabase.Com says she was born in Glendale, when Roxann's place of birth was really Los Angeles. Aside from that, who is to say there isn't another Roxann Biggs out there born Sep 11th 1958, or another Roxann Caballero born Sep 11th 1958. After looking on US Search, I found that there are six records of Roxann Caballero's all aged 47 at different addresses in California. I don't know whether or not its the same Roxann with many different addresses or not... After I searched for Roxann Dawson and Roxann Caballero with the birth year of 1964 on Ancestry.Com, there is a Roxann Dawson and Roxann Caballero listed. 1964 is the offical birthdate coming from what Roxann has told her official website. But I think until there is some kind of official statment shown from Roxann this mystery of her birthdate will go on...—Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.203.123.150 (talkcontribs)

Or a full confession, preferably.
To answer your question, birthdatabase.com doesn't always list by birthplace. Roxann's listing is under "Roxann Biggs", her married name. Glendale is a Los Angeles suburb, she may have voted there or resided there at one time. As for ancestry.com, I presume you do not have a subscription. If you search under her name, first it will bring up all of the name matches, and then it will order them by relevance to the birth year selected. Searching under 1958 and 1964 bring up the same results.
As for Terry Farrell, the 11/19 entry is from Texas. Given that there are over 80 matches, and the Terry Farrell from Star Trek has apparently never resided in Texas, there is the possibility that it is not her. While there is an extremely small chance of another Roxann Caballero and a Roxann Biggs all living in the same area and sharing a common birthdate, don't forget the other huge 1958 evidence - she graduated from UC Berkeley in 1980. The earliest a person can complete a BA is at 21 or 22 - not possible for someone born in 1964.--Fallout boy 21:25, 23 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I contacted UC Berkeley and they confirmed that Roxann graduated in 1980, just encase people thought there may be a mistake on their website...
This is a section taken from an article on the TV Guide website. - Roxann, who played Lieutenant B'Elanna Torres on Star Trek: Voyager, was born on Sept. 11, 1964, in Los Angeles, where she grew up. She was a theater arts major at the University of California at Berkeley and did extensive theater work before landing the role of Adrienne Morrow on NBC's popular soap Another World. She is married to casting director Eric Dawson, and they have one child. She was married previously to actor Casey Biggs, who was a regular on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.209.237.174 (talkcontribs)
She received her diploma in 1980 from the University of Berkeley, not a degree. If she was born in 1964, then that would make her 16 at the time. Is it really possible to graduate with a diploma at 16?—Preceding unsigned comment added by 172.201.86.141 (talkcontribs)
A diploma and a degree are almost always given at the same time. Although in some cases, a person may complete their degree in mid-semester, and their diploma is given to them the following year, so a diploma and a degree would be a few months apart at most. With a Sept birthday, it would have been 15, which is not possible considering she also graduated from high schoo before that.
Also, I finally located a freely accessible version of the CA birth index, which shows that the only Roxann Caballero was born on Sept. 11, 1958.[2]--Fallout boy 23:43, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I guess it's possible that she was a genius and graduated that young. You see those kinds of kids on the news sometimes. But there would be reports of that somewhere in some news archive or even her own bio (actors love to brag about their "high IQs" among other things, so why wouldn't she brag about that?). I say it's not probable and she was born no later than 1960. MrBlondNYC 09:40, 4 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I find it so hard to believe that she was born in 1958. I know all evidence shows that its most likley true. Maybe 1960, but 1958???

I e-mailed birthdatabase.com and they replied telling me that they aren't always reliable with peoples real birthdates and often get them wrong. So perhaps there is a mistake somewhere?

Even if they are wrong, they are only one of the many corroborating sources for 1958.--Fallout boy 07:18, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This is an article that was featured in TV Guide. - As half-Klingon, half-human dynamo B’Elanna Torres, Roxann Dawson doesn’t see herself as hotter than your average life-form. The 35-year-old actress believes it is Chief Engineer Torres’s fiery, take-no-prisoners attitude that fuels fan appeal-- and Voyager’s final season promises even more romantic sparks between Torres and Lt. Tom Paris (Robert Duncan McNeill). "They talk about my character being tough and sexy," she says. "If that’s what they’re seeing, that’s wonderful." Dawson, a theater-arts major at the University of California at Berkeley, directed an episode of the UPN show last season. Married to TV casting director Eric Dawson, she believes unassuming intelligence--"not somebody who’s showing off, but someone who has a certain amount of wisdom"--is what’s "really sexy."

This is an official publication, which you think be accurate. But as mentioned before it could be false information that was given to the writer of the magazine article

I could believe she was born in 1958 or in 1964, but I have a very hard time believing she was graduated from UC Berkeley 1n 1980 if she was actually born in 1964. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.235.224.216 (talk) 18:30, 26 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

She did admit in the #StarsInTheHouse 5/26/20 episode that she lied about her age earlier in her career. I can't link to it because apparently Youtube links are blocked, but it's at 30:02. -Shivertimbers433 (talk) 18:53, 31 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Seems like this is a settled issue but here's a source for 1958: "This day in history". The Boston Globe. September 11, 2024. p. B2. ProQuest 3102605258. Nnev66 (talk) 00:10, 22 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Directing debut

[edit]

IMDB says she directed an episode of heartbreak cafe which would mean voyager was not her directing debut. Someone should change it. Bremen 08:59, 31 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Name Confusion

[edit]

I often confuse Roxxann Dawson for Rosario Dawson

I thought Roxann was Rosario Dawson's sister. It seems however they're actually not. See http://www.tvguide.com/News-Views/Columnists/Ask-FlickChick/?posting={21A08F67-7C16-4AF3-98B0-7AAFCAD4583D}. ShutterBugTrekker 19:07, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The link you provided is outdated. For anyone who's interested, here's a good link. Note that the link also provides a different DOB for Roxann. Perhaps some more editing for the article on completely different grounds is in order. Homoaffectional (talk) 18:31, 16 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Marriage to Casey Biggs

[edit]

Alright, others may know differently - since this is stated both here and in Mr. Biggs' entry - but I seem to recall an article (albeit not well enough to remember the title of the publication - I think it had 'Zone' in it) from her early Voyager days in which it was stated that Mrs. Dawson had changed Cabalero to Biggs to avoid being typecast as a Hispanic, rather than becoming Biggs through marriage. Does anybody have any clarification on this issue? GoldringI 01:37, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A chat with Casey Biggs on startrek.com confirms that he was married to Roxann, and that she had taken his name when they married. http://www.startrek.com/startrek/view/community/chat/archive/transcript/1146.html 23:20, 2 July 2007 (UTC)

Race

[edit]

Is she white? Mixed? I thought she was black or of mixed races while she was in make up on Voyager. --24.177.0.156 (talk) 01:42, 3 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

She's Hispanic if we're box ticking, but I think it's pretty obvious that there are several ethnicities in her genetic mix (not Klingon though). Klingons are portrayed as having dark skin regardless of the ethnicity of the actor playing the part. --Ef80 (talk) 18:59, 12 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Republican?

[edit]

She tweeted a post opposing Bill de Blasio. Any other clue on her politics? 98.10.165.90 (talk) 02:13, 5 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

She listed Fountainhead by Ayn Rand as one of her favorite books.[3] -- 109.79.175.220 (talk) 04:25, 27 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
