Norley Bank
[edit]Norley Bank sounds like the name of a house and I doubt that it is synonymous with the village of Norley; in which case the link should be removed. Peter I. Vardy (talk) 21:36, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
- This is 'findable' on google maps, a search for "Norley Bank" gives a point on a long L-shaped building on Marsh Lane, Norley.--Alf melmac 11:39, 21 January 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for that. I've found it on the OS map too. Article amended. Peter I. Vardy (talk) 12:18, 21 January 2009 (UTC)
GA?
[edit]The article as it stands is in good shape, at least C-class, probably closer to B because it's fully referenced. A conversion for the sums of money mentioned might be worthwhile; this site is useful, although there are several out there which will give conflicting conversions. The question is, how much information is available? If this is it, or at least close to it, I'd say it's worth a shot at GA. What's the worst that can happen? Nev1 (talk) 11:53, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
- It's a thought, but I think I can add some more material first. I've added the cost of the house in today's values as a footnote. Thanks. Peter I. Vardy (talk) 13:18, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
egerton family
[edit]Presumably he is related in some way to the better known Cheshire Egertons - Earl of Bridgewater etc. It would be nice to tie this up. Johnbod (talk) 15:16, 22 January 2009 (UTC)
- His father, Rev. Rowland Egerton, BA (9 March 1778 – 20 May 1846), was the seventh son of Philip Egerton of Egerton and Oulton (ref. Ormerod's History of Cheshire, i.575). I cannot find a close connection between him and the Bridgewaters - there may have been one way back. Peter I. Vardy (talk) 12:34, 23 January 2009 (UTC)
Rowland or Egerton-Warburton?
[edit]I've just done a very light copy edit and note that the article uses "Rowland" throughout to refer to the subject. I believe the style guidelines for biographies suggest using the surname (refer Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style_(biographies)#Subsequent_uses_of_names) -- in this case it would be rather clumsy, perhaps, but many instances could probably be changed to "he" without ambiguity. Espresso Addict (talk) 22:11, 11 February 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for that. I did feel that "Egerton-Warburton" was a bit clumsy and tried to avoid this by the use of "Rowland". However as this is perceived to be too "familiar" I have replaced some of the Rowlands by Egerton-Warburton and others by "he" and variants. Does it read OK? Peter I. Vardy (talk) 11:58, 14 February 2009 (UTC)
- I think that's a definite improvement. It did read a little oddly to me to have a man of that era & class referred to by forename. I've pruned out a couple more instances of "Egerton-Warburton". Espresso Addict (talk) 13:02, 14 February 2009 (UTC)
