Controversy

[edit]

It has been discussed in the deletion logs that this person/artist is not a noteworthy candidate for a biographical Wikipedia article based on the fact that the subject is merely a "Youtube sensation." I then raise the question: at what point does an artist, communicating through Youtube, leave the realm of just being a "sensation"? Ronald Jenkees, while highly independent, is an entertainer and artist with a supporting website, and CSD A7 shall not apply here. Shields020 (talk) 06:55, 29 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Having a "supporting website" doesn't make one notable. Any person can get a website. See WP:MUSICBIO and WP:BIO#Basic criteria for the criteria on what makes a person notable. Killiondude (talk) 08:12, 29 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not exactly a regular editor of wikipedia, but here goes...

According to this link (and several others) Jenkees composed the theme tune for Bill Simmons's show http://www.last.fm/music/Ronald+Jenkees

And according to this link simmons' show got second place in an iTunes contest for "top new podcast of 2007", he also thanks Jenkees by name. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmons/links/071227 So that would meet the notability criteria?

Not to mention his vast popularity on last.fm (the most popular music scrobbling site on the net i think http://www.last.fm/music/Ronald+Jenkees)

And i also think it's insane to just totally ignore the fact that he's one of the most famous people on youtube, which is one of the most popular sites on the internet.

So regular mentions on ESPN (http://search.espn.go.com/ronald-jenkees/), being one of the most scrobbled artists on last.fm, and being hugely popular on youtube equals his article being up for deletion? :/ Eldini (talk) 15:39, 29 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't put the article up for deletion. I merely tagged it for notability because as of right now it doesn't have enough reliable sources that show Mr. Jenkees notability. What you just posted above me, however, does indeed make a good case for the person's notability. I can check out those links later today (I'm actually at work right now) to see what I can do. Notability

[edit]

I was going to create this article in the future when a few more sources report Ronald Jenkees, but since someone has already recreated the article, I can assert that it does conform to WP:NOTABILITY. Notability requires multiple reliable sources independent to the subject. The following fit under this:

So we have three sources, one from a magazine and another from a TV show. This clearly adheres to WP:NOTABILITY. --Teggles (talk) 10:23, 4 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Also contains an article in Dazed & Confused (magazine), not sure which issue though. --Teggles (talk) 02:42, 5 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks guys :-)...I didn't have the words/sources to assert that he was in fact notable. Shields020 (talk) 04:00, 5 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
With his recent new output, he's growing more notable than ever. I'd say maybe when the article was started it was questionable, but now its not. Danski14(talk) 17:28, 12 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Feltes

[edit]

It has been suggested that Ronald Jenkees is actually a stage name for Ben Feltes--a former student from Murray State University--within comments to the RustyLime.com article. Please do not update Ronald Jenkees' name to Benjamin Feltes until a reliable source can be followed and is cited.Shields020 (talk) 00:24, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

My placement of the name there has nothing to do with accusations on that site or any other. It's a simple fact that his name is Benjamin Feltes. Don't correlate that fact with an accusation of him being an "act", because there is none made. I'll leave it out merely because I know it'll get backlash. --Teggles (talk) 01:43, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
My removal of that tidbit was in no way a personal jab; I personally have been nailed recently for making changes that are not referenced. I would like to see the correct information listed here, so when you find a notable reference, please change the page and cite the source. Remember, I'm the one the started this page back up because I don't have the belief he's an act...I just know we need validity on naming. Thanks :-) Shields020 (talk) 03:41, 6 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You can find him as Benjamin Feltes in his older rap videos such as "56k" Source - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Z2Sgmn5DgM Anyhow he has a facebook under his real name and such. The squint/hat/glasses are a persona to help sell music. from his old Myspace page on wayback machine "You have to have a hook to sell music. And Ronald Jenkees is my hook." — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.90.38.181 (talk) 00:25, 3 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Emailing Jenkees is solution for questions

[edit]

I sent a few e-mail to this guy, and he answered them :).

Here is my first e-mail and his answer:

Dear Ronald,

To save your time, so you can work on your awesome music, I'll get straight to the point. 1. Am I allowed to use the frontcover of your first album as a picture on there? 2. Do you have any guess/idea when your second album is going to be released. I know you don't like deadlines, but at least please try and guess :) 3. Do you have any future plans, besides making albums? Any great dreams or plans on your mind? 4. Can you give me a list of your gear, like keyboard, computer, synths, anything you know?

If you can't answer any of these questions it's no big deal, but I hope you can :).

Greeting from a big fan and don't dare to stop playing music!,

[My name]

sure man!! thanks for taking the time to get more info

1. absolutely yes 2. I'm hoping by March, we'll see. :) 3. when I get done with my second album, I might start focusing on getting major placement (trying to get a famous artist to rap/sing over one of my beats) just for the fun of it and to do something different.

What little gear I have:

Keyboards: Yamaha Motif XS8, Korg Triton le Software: Windows XP, FL Studio 8 VST's: various free VST's from www.kvraudio.com Soundcard: M-Audio Delta 1010LT Speakers: Edirol MA-D10 (cheap) Headphones: AKG K-66

Also, not sure if you want to include this, but I was featured on G4TV in October: http://www.g4tv.com/attackoftheshow/whoswhoonyoutube/65521/Ronald-Jenkees.html

He answers in a day, so it's pretty easy to ask some questions. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dj Jaddo (talkcontribs) 22:43, 7 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

What about pictures?

[edit]

So I've been looking on other wikipedia articles, and some of them contained pictures.

If you read the mail I write to Jenkees, and his reply, you can see he would be very excited if we could add his picture on here. Now the problem is that I'm really new at this and have no idea whatsoever to do...

So can anyone help me with that? Is it possible?

Thanks, and let's expand this article, because I'm sure there's more about him we could share to the world.

I really do like pie...really 22:59, 7 January 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dj Jaddo (talkcontribs)

I grabbed and uploaded a screen cap from YouTube but it got removed because I admitted in the file info I did not ask the owner for permission. You should go check out Wikimedia Commons to learn about content within the Wikipedia suite. Once logged in to the commons, you can proceed to Commons:Upload. You'll find the procedure there. Shields020 (talk) 00:18, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Ok well I did ask Ronald for permission and you can read his reply up there^. Thanks for your tip, it helped a lot! The pic is now on there, hope it's all fine and it has the right info and stuff. Collecting more information about his 2nd album coming out around March. I really do like pie...really 19:40, 8 January 2009 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dj Jaddo (talkcontribs)
You did well uploading and providing some information, but you'll need to substantiate your upload with proof. How? I have no idea. Shields020 (talk) 22:46, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
If you take a look at WP:YOURPHOTO, Ronald Jenkees needs to actually submit an email (with the photo) to Wikipedia's OTRS system (the email address and instructions are in WP:YOURPHOTO). Killiondude (talk) 23:17, 8 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Should be able to classify the image as fair use, anyway. --125.238.145.124 (talk) 03:36, 9 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

"Hello Youtubes" = "Hello Youtubers"

[edit]

Just pointing out that he is clearly not saying what the article says he is saying. 209.155.40.214 (talk) 21:35, 24 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You are mistaken, see here for example. -- intgr [talk] 23:01, 24 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
