49 or 50 games with Carlton?

[edit]

The article shows he played 49 games at Carlton: This is my recollection of an interesting point: Ron Barrassi played 49 games at Carlton, then retired from playing briefly, returning for one more game so that he played 50 games at Carlton and his son could qualify for the father-son rule, that he was partially responsible for establishing. (I was at that last game and recall my father telling me this) Is this correct? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.46.248.203 (talk) 19:03, 27 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agree that it is 50 games. Games played can be sourced here http://www.afltables.com/afl/stats/players/R/Ron_Barassi0.html —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.7.192.244 (talk) 06:08, 4 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Point of View

[edit]

A lot of this page reads as a real puff-piece on the subject. request that someone takes a look at it and completes a re write as far as removing such terms as "Inspirational" etc.TheNeutroniumAlchemist (talk) 01:58, 18 September 2008 (UTC) Quick example from the history section: "marking his evolution from courageous and commanding footballer to clever and creative coach." seems like it was written by a real fan - needs to be mroe neutralTheNeutroniumAlchemist (talk) 02:05, 18 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This is incredibly biased. eg. "Barassi's name is synonymous with Australian football for many reasons; incredible success as a player, as a revolutionary coach and an enduring media personality. For more than 50 years he has been one of the most influential people in the game, and the shadow he casts is matched by few, if any." Needs a rewrite or severe edit. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.170.4.247 (talk) 05:34, 9 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Have to agree with both the above comments. It's sycophantic claptrap. The early versions of this article were never this bad. How do changes like this get into Wikipedia without being classified as vandalism when they occur? HiLo48 (talk) 02:10, 17 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

tried to edit this but got booted out when putting in a source. agree with the neutrality EXCEPT they are direct quotes from the Hall of Fame entry so you can't really say it is 'by a real fan' but the actual description from Sport Australia Hall of Fame http://www.sahof.org.au/hallOfFame/memberProfile/index.php?memberID=7&memberType=legends. Will attempt to redo this in bits as I lost about 2 hours work restructuring, citing etc. Gervo1865 (talk) 05:53, 2 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

First Australian footballer killed?

[edit]

In the lead we are told "His father, Ron Barassi, Sr., was the first Australian footballer killed at Tobruk during World War II." Exactly what is this saying? The was no AFL back then. Does it mean state competition player? DId no-one else who died there earlier play Aussie Rules? There is no source referenced. It's really not clear.
