Please do not delete the bishop-elect and vicar general!
[edit]These are the current office holders!!!! The biggest candy master (talk) 01:07, 10 June 2020 (UTC)
- The biggest candy master, actually, a bishop-elect takes office when he is installed, and per canon law, a Vicar General loses his office during sede vacante, so we will need to see reliable secondary sources for the VG in office at this time. Elizium23 (talk) 05:55, 10 June 2020 (UTC)
- First, Do you consider the DIOCESE WEBSITE enough proof? Secondly, I know what Canon Law states. However, seeing as Bishop Emeritus Guillory was kept on, by the Holy Father, as Apostolic Admin, he can retain his Vicar General, albeit with a reduction in the VG's powers, as the seat is technically vacant until August 21. - To all those trying to blindside me: §2. When the function of the diocesan bishop is suspended, the power of a vicar general and an episcopal vicar is suspended. Canon 481. This states that their power is suspended, but not their office. Therefore, the Monsignor Michael Jamail remains Vicar General (at least in name) until another is appointed. I am hereby dropping this matter. Just thought I'd share this with the 3+ Wiki editors telling me I'm wrong. The biggest candy master (talk) 00:09, 11 June 2020 (UTC)
- The biggest candy master, while we are on the subject of diocesan websites, here are a couple of sources that assert "the office of Vicar General ceases" in a sede vacante [1] [2] [3] so if the office ceases I would say there's no call to put someone in an infobox. - The Diocese of Allentown is not run the same as this diocese. The bishop emeritus is still in attendance, and he is Apostolic Administrator to boot! He certainly has the power to retain his Vicar General until, in this case, 08-21-2020.The biggest candy master (talk) 01:26, 11 June 2020 (UTC)
- I am suspending my own Wiki account in the case of retribution. Good luck. P.S I am a Catholic Diocese employee. I know this bishop. He is a friend of my diocesan bishop. The biggest candy master (talk) 01:28, 11 June 2020 (UTC)
- Yes, unfortunately there are nuances of Church governance that we cannot know from the published details. Since Wikipedia relies on secondary sources all we can do is report and summarize what is contained in them, and our articles may not necessarily reflect the situation on the ground. For example, the outgoing bishop may confirm the faculties of the Vicar General. But they will not publish a news story that says this has been done, it's in a private memo. All kinds of dispensations and derogations and variances may be at play that we are simply not privy to. Just because you have personal knowledge does not mean that it is admissible on Wikipedia. We need sources to back it up. Elizium23 (talk) 01:40, 11 June 2020 (UTC)

July 2021 Latin Church revision
[edit]As of July 2021, this article was modified to eliminate the nondescript term "Roman Catholic" in favor of the more precise distinction of "Latin Church" (the sui iuris church) and "Catholic Church" (the denomination). If you believe this edit to be in error or improper, please make the relevant reversion and open discussion on this talk page or my personal talk page. Thank you. ~ Pbritti (talk) 22:40, 17 July 2021 (UTC)
