Talk:Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Avignon
Ceasing as metropolitan
[edit]Catholic-hierarchy has these as most recent ordinaries:
Raymond Joseph Louis Bouchex † (25 Apr 1978 Appointed - 21 Jun 2002 Retired)
Jean-Pierre Marie Cattenoz (21 Jun 2002 Appointed - 11 Jan 2021 Retired)
François Marie Aimé Marius Fonlupt (11 Jun 2021 Appointed - )
Catholic-hierarchy also has this archdiocese ceasing as metropolitan Dec. 8, 2002. (So although this see is still called archdiocese, its ordinary no longer receives a pallium.) Same source has Cattenoz being ordained bishop on Oct. 13, 2002. Only my guess: Presumably he did not receive a pallium in the 2 months before Avignon archdiocese became non-metropolitan. - I checked the VIS (English) lists for those receiving the pallium for 2002 and 2003 and he does not appear on either list. Dcheney (talk) 07:30, 8 July 2021 (UTC)
Avignon should be mentioned in the lede section
[edit]Prior to my edit, Avignon, France, was not mentioned (nor linked) in the lede section. I added a sentence about it, but someone with a better understanding of French geography should clean it up. It's rather clear to me that Avignon is located within the region that is described as the jurisdiction, but I didn't want to mess with the earlier sentence, so now the geographical description is two sentences. Or leave it like it is.
