copy edit?

Can the intro be copy edited a bit? In each of the first three paragraphs, it says that the song reached #1 in the US.

1) "'Rolling in the Deep' became Adele's first number-one single in the United States"
2) "It peaked at number one in ... the United States"
3) "'Rolling in the Deep' became Adele's second single to chart in the United States and her first number one hit in the country"

The information is fine, but it's a bit redundant and I feel like I'm being pounded over the head with it. I'm hoping someone with better writing skills than mine can consolidate or rewrite it, as so much of it is just chart info. Thanks. --Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars (talk) 15:57, 13 May 2011 (UTC)

I moved all the info regarding U.S. chart peaks in the last paragraph. If anyone else sees anything that could be improved, please do so! --Wikipeep 494 (talk) 00:29, 15 May 2011 (UTC)

Uh?

The following week Adele maintained her number one positions becoming the first British artist to hang on for more than one week since Phil Collins back in 1989-90

Don't have any sources at hand, but it seems to me that several British artists managed that feat during the intervening years (Elton John's "Candle In The Wind" spent a lot of time at number one way back in 1997) -- X. Lechard — Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.31.222.240 (talk) 16:19, 30 May 2011 (UTC) Ignoring the fact that it's about simultaneous topping with both the song and the album it was on. As in simply a single song or album from a British artist wouldn't count. Neither would non-simultaneous number ones such as Viva la Vida. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.20.128.166 (talk) 10:32, 9 June 2011 (UTC)

Chord Progression

I'm not familiar in these territories, but can some of you guys comment on the correctness of the statement that the song follows the chord progression C5–G5–B♭5–G5–B♭5? B♭5 is so high when her voice spanned the highest being D5? Thanks. --Efe (talk) 12:42, 12 June 2011 (UTC)

I'm not too knowledgable about musical theory either, but I think that the chord progression is the instruments, while D5 is the vocal high. Adabow (talk · contribs) 04:32, 13 June 2011 (UTC)
The 5's in the chords mean they're all open fifths, not actual "chords". Ten Pound Hammer, his otters and a clue-bat • (Otters want attention) 03:19, 6 August 2011 (UTC)
I really think Ten many music writers here in Wikipedia are misinterpreting that sheet music. Can you help us? --Efe (talk) 13:58, 6 August 2011 (UTC)
The article is correct. Looking at the first page of the sheet music, all the chords are written as open fifths (i.e., a "C5" in this context is just C and G sounding together). The vocal range is described in scientific pitch notation, so D5 in that context would be a ninth (an octave + whole-step) above Middle C. Epistaxis! hehe. That's too technical for us. But thank you for the links. Anyway, I was reading chords, and it says: "A chord in music is any set of notes that is heard as if sounding simultaneously." And C5–G5–B♭5–G5–B♭5? B♭5 obviously is not a chord progression. Perhaps they're referring to guitar chords. By looking at the sheet music, it seems it is. --Efe (talk) 13:18, 13 August 2011 (UTC)
I've rewritten it to clarify that the accompaniment. The guitar and piano accompaniment are just playing the open fifths (i.e., a C and G together for C5), not chords. Ten Pound Hammer, his otters and a clue-bat • (Otters want attention) 18:41, 14 August 2011 (UTC)

Music Video?

This gives a rather pointless and unneeded description on the contents of the video (if someone really wanted to know they could just, you know, watch it) while actually giving very little technical information, such as who directed it, etc. Just seems kinda pointless. I probably should change this myself, but I'm lazy. Yeah. Does it really need that full description of what's in the video? And could someone find some useful information? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 116.240.165.81 (talk) 15:24, 10 August 2011 (UTC)

Covers

Why isn't John Legend's version mentioned? Especially since I believe his was before the Glee cover, which is based on the John Legend cover... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.55.57.235 (talk) 05:46, 15 July 2011 (UTC)

Feel free to add relevant information, verified by reliable sources with references. Adabow (talk · contribs) 06:32, 15 July 2011 (UTC)
Done. I also edited the "Glee version" that stated they were first, since (at the earliest I can see), John Legend uploaded his cover on SoundCloud one month before the Glee version aired. - the guy who made the original comment. 06:52, 20 July 2011

Commercial response section.

This song has performed the best and had the most interesting charting this year in the US, and I am really surprised at how small this section is. It will be harder to find the week by week info now, but this section has the potential to be very informative and interesting to read. Calvin NaNaNaC'mon! 23:00, 12 October 2011 (UTC)

Iceland Chart

I tried to enter information about the Icelandic performance of the song, it finally peaked the charts after the Grammy Awards (http://www.tonlist.is/Music/Chartlist/474/) as well as finishing twentieth on the end of year list (http://www.tonlist.is/Music/Chartlist/474/), but it was deemed an "illegal chart." I hope someone can resolve this, Iceland's chart is called Tónlist.is (http://www.tonlist.is). -1jonssonh (talk) 19:13, 11 March 2012 (UTC)

Controversy

There's been some controversy when people were discussing whether she said "lay your ship bare" or "lay your shit bare". According to the handwritten lyrics at this website: http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20120202231635/adeles/images/8/8a/Adele_-_Rolling_in_the_Deep_%28Handwritten_Lyrics%29.jpg - the correct lyrics is "shit". Should that be included? --201.66.200.203 (talk) 23:00, 29 June 2012 (UTC)

too long

this article is way too long. this is only a contemporary pop song, no matter how successful it is. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 147.9.136.19 (talk) 22:40, 10 April 2013 (UTC)

So? Should it look like this just because it is a contemporary song? Nonsense. Blame the external people who have dedicated their time to write reviews and articles about the song, not Wikipedia for posting them. Tbhotch. Grammatically incorrect? Correct it! See terms and conditions. 22:43, 10 April 2013 (UTC)

Words vs. music

The article needs to clarify who wrote the words and who wrote the music. Softlavender (talk) 05:39, 24 May 2013 (UTC)

It does(though not referenced), Adele and Paul Epworth wrote the lyrics, who wrote the music? Do you mean who sung it? If that's the case than Adele.

Would be nice if someone can source it though. --108.211.193.185 (talk) 02:12, 22 July 2013 (UTC)

Promotional tone

I am 99% confident that this was paid content added to Wikipedia by a promoter (before wikipedia banned the practice). The article would need major surgery to be salvaged, perhaps more than this topic deserves. (While it's a great song, it is not very notable from an encyclopedic point of view.) It'd probably be best to revert and start over, but unfortunately it looks like the damage was done years ago. I am not yet skilled enough in wikipedia history editing, but it'd be great if someone who is could manage to remove just the parts that were obviously added by a promoter. Ben (talk) 09:29, 17 July 2017 (UTC)

Paid editing is not banned. Please see Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.
If you feel there is a problem with bias in the article, there are several steps you can take. If, through a review of the article's history, you identify specific editors you believe had or have a conflict of interest, discussing the issue here would be a good start. I could help with warnings for any still-active editors and looking into any similar problems from them elsewhere.
Marking, rewriting and/or deleting inappropriate content and adding any missing content is much more likely the solution than deleting the article and starting over. The song clearly is notable As the breakthrough hit of a major artist, a fairly detailed article is appropriate.
I'll take a quick look and clean up any aggregious problems I see. - SummerPhDv2.0 14:24, 17 July 2017 (UTC)

Not a Soul/Blues Song.

This song exhibits elements of modern day pop music. Many sources say that Adele is a Soul singer, but most of them exhibit her songs having the IDEA of Soul, not the song itself being an example of Soul music.
