Bengali / Bangladesh
[edit]Box on right says Bengali. Main text says Bangladesh. Which is it? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.29.187.118 (talk) 04:23, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
- Have a look at the Bengali people and Bangladesh articles, as they should provide the answer to your question/confusion. --DAJF (talk) 05:14, 14 June 2012 (UTC)
True Name
[edit]I've been looking at this article for a few weeks and I remain very undecided over whether "佐藤えり/Eri Sato" should be included in this article. Looking at the sources, it appears the first one should be ignored since it is a blog and the other (if taken to be reliable source - I'm not 100% sure on this) is solely based on a single childhood picture. This, to me, raises a few questions. (1) Especially when her father is Bengali, there is no proof that it is her legal name and is unlikely to be her birth name since 佐藤 is a Japanese name (it could simply be a Japanese nickname given to her, in which case it doesn't have much encyclopaedic value since it is not a name she is commonly known by and Wikipedia doesn't list every childhood nick name) (2) Is it absolutely certain that the picture is of her/not photo shopped?
Either way I am undecided on whether the right course of action is: (a) to assume they're correct and leave it (a quick search of the internet seems to agree with the name but no stand-out reliable source) (b) leave it but request a more reliable source (c) revert it back to "Rola" until a reliable source produces her legal name. It is worth noting that none of the other languages mention "佐藤えり".
Any input/alternative proposal would be greatly appreciated - feel free to disagree, I'm an undecided editor looking for consensus! Thank you JTST4RS (talk) 22:12, 31 August 2013 (UTC)
Different contributor here: I'd like to mention that when Rola appeared on the show Sanma no Manma (さんまのまんま) in 2014, she revealed that her real name is not in fact Rola. She said Rola is her stage name, but her real name is a Japanese name. Host Sanma Akashiya made guesses as to what her name is since Rola said she wouldn't say it, but she told him he was right when he guessed that her name was either Sakura or Sachi - she said the さ (sa) character was correct. Rola also added that her name began with え (e). Her full name wasn't confirmed on the show, but with hints to さ and え, I think it's further indication that her real name is Eri Sato. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.245.224.183 (talk) 19:58, 1 February 2015 (UTC)
- Thank you for your comments. I completely agree that "Rola" is a stage name and this fact should be added to the article with an appropriate source, if one can be found. Unfortunately, the Wikipedia rules regarding biography of living persons is very strict, see Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons#Reliable sources and, as far as I am aware, there is only speculation/gossip that her real name is Eri Sato. As a result of this policy, I believe that "Eri Sato" should only be added when a reliable and reputable source can be found which confirms that this is her true name. Thanks again for your comments (please sign with ~~~~ next time), JTST4RS (talk) 20:26, 1 February 2015 (UTC)
TV persona additions, November 2013
[edit]made two additions over as many days to this gal's "as TV personality" section; provided plenty of sourcing though some is J'nese... didn't mean to fatten up that section of the article, though that's what happened, BUT: lets face it friends, its these very personality traits for which Rola merits any mention on ANY wiki in the first place, no? just thought i7d justify my additions here so they don't seem out-of-nowhere... well-written, well-sourced, BUT: if anyone can help with any source-FORMATting, よろしくお願い〜 (not my strong point)... this is all encyclopedic info about someone decidedly UN-encyclopedic were it not for facts such as these, and i consider that my main contribution to wikipedia... you'll hear from me again~ Japanglish (talk) 06:53, 8 November 2013 (UTC)
Mother's Heritage
[edit]There is a contradiction amongst the sources regarding Rola's mother's heritage. Where as the Japan Times article (http://www.japantimes.co.jp/culture/2012/09/20/music/it-girl-rola-welcomes-jepsen-to-japan/#.U339MfldVqW) claims her mother is half Russian, the Japanese articles (http://news.nicovideo.jp/watch/nw115592 and http://mdpr.jp/news/detail/1131443) claim she is a quarter Russian.(In the sentences "母は日本人とロシア人のクォーター" and "母親は日本人とロシア人のクオーター" respectively.) The Japanese Wikipedia article states she is a quarter Russian. Until the matter is resolved I have changed the sentence to read that her mother is of mixed Japanese and Russian heritage. Thank you, JTST4RS (talk) 13:44, 22 May 2014 (UTC)
- When this article was 1st made, it said her mother was Japanese with a quarter Russian heritrage. Here is the 1st version of the page.[1] Indeed, the Japanese Wikipedia version[2] of this article also says the same. The original Japanese sources also say the same thing, which you've confirmed. The article was changed here[3] on October 30, 2013 at 11:08. In this case, I'd say that 1 English source is wrong and those 2 Japanese sources are correct. Father's arrest
[edit]I agree that a valid reason must be given for removal of content. I don't know what 180.1.96.168's reason is. But speaking for myself, I'm not comfortable with so much space devoted to negative information about a living person. And that person is not even the subject of the article, he's only her father. If this incident is included, then the mention should be brief, and limited to its effect on Rola.TheTruth-2009 (talk) 15:53, 18 January 2016 (UTC)

Hello. I am writing to you on behalf of Rola. I am part of her management team, and would like to request that Wikipedia refrains from posting any information regarding her dad because it is not only a very controversial topic, but it is also defaming to her character. In addition, some of the information written on that page is incorrect. We would appreciate it if you could cooperate with us and remove this information permanently from wikipedia.
180.12.63.34 (talk) 05:35, 2 February 2016 (UTC)
- Not done: Hi there. First of all, Wikipedia is not censored. Controversial topics are generally not shyed away from just because it is very controversial. In addition, no one owns Wikipedia articles, so if people wish to insert details of this controversy, assuming what is written follows guidelines, then it will be accepted.
Secondly, you will need to provide exactly what needs changing in a "X to Y" format, as well as providing independent reliable sources for anything that needs to be changed. --allthefoxes (Talk) 05:52, 2 February 2016 (UTC)

The details of the problems that I list below can be found in the link above.
According to Wikipedia’s policy of biographies of living persons, the paragraph addressing Rola’s Father’s Arrest violates the policy above and “must be removed immediately from the article and its talk page” for the following reasons:
1. It includes “contentious material about living persons” 2. The information is “potentially libelous” 3. The sources and citations for numbers 13, 14 and 17 are invalid. The link to the webpages do not work. 4. It does not adhere to the policy of “Biographies of living persons must be written conservatively and with regard for the subject's privacy.” 5. I would also like to raise the point that this information has the “possibility of being harm(ful) to (living subjects) (and this) must (always) be considered when exercising editorial judgment.” 6. Because Rola is a public figure, there is a lot of information out there to include about her, but this incident about her father’s arrest is not relevant to her career and/or to her celebrity persona. In fact, her father’s arrest has nothing to do with her talent or what she is famous for.
This material about Rola’s Father’s Arrest has been repeatedly inserted back in, after numerous efforts of trying to delete the information, resulting in the page becoming semi-protected and unable to edit. Therefore, I have no choice but to report the issue. Please help to permanently remove this information from Wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Libera2016 (talk • contribs) 07:06, 9 February 2016 (UTC)
