Zoocasa is a licensed real estate brokerage and a Rogers Communications company

Changes in the Rogers Communications page

Hi all, I am a Rogers employee and wanted to flag a few changes that happened recently so that they could be updated by the community within the Rogers Wiki page. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rogers_Communications

1. Our Board of Directors has changed slightly (one to remove, title changes). They are now:

Guy Laurence has released details of his strategic plan as outlined in a press release on May 23, 2014 here: http://www.newswire.ca/en/story/1360555/rogers-3-0-accelerating-growth-and-overhauling-the-customer-experience. We would appreciate it if you could update the last sentence within the “Going Beyond Wireless” section that currently reads, “CEO Guy Laurence has spoken out about an upcoming change meant to jumpstart growth at the company. Laurence has not released any specific details, but says that the strategy will help allow the company’s telecom and media units to work better together” to reflect this.

Questionable Claims

The article alleges that "In 1925, Rogers Sr. invented the world's first alternating current (AC)for a radio tube...." This claim is ambiguous at best, and perhaps completely inaccurate.

The first alternator to produce alternating current was a dynamo electric generator based on Michael Faraday's principles constructed by the French instrument maker Hippolyte Pixii in 1832. There is no such thing as "alternating current for a radio tube." There is alternating current, and direct current. Period.

In 1907 Lee de Forest filed a patent for a three-electrode device that was a sensitive detector of electromagnetic waves. It was granted US Patent 879,532 in February 1908. The device was also called the de Forest valve, and since 1919 has been known as the triode. It is generally regarded as the heart of modern radio communications and signal amplification.

In 1916, Lee de Forest used an experimental radio station in New York City to broadcast the first radio advertisements and the first Presidential election report.
Presumably there was somebody with a radio receiver to hear it.

The tuned radio frequency receiver (TRF) was patented in 1916 by Ernst Alexanderson, and available to the public in the early 1920s - apparently without waiting for Rogers to invent AC to power it ??? Tube radios require at least 200 volts to power them. (The B+ supply.) Voltage "boosters" were not available, so battery-powered radios did not yet exist.

Electromagnetic induction, the principle of the operation of the transformer, was discovered independently by Michael Faraday in 1831 and Joseph Henry in 1832. Closed-core transformers and parallel power distribution was developed in 1884 by Károly Zipernowsky, Ottó Bláthy and Miksa Déri.

In the early radio receivers a built-in transformer was used to boost the "mains" supply (household power) to 200 volts or more for the primary tube operation, and reduce it to 6-8 volts for the tube filaments. (the 'heaters')
Rogers Sr. was not involved.

All the quoted information used here was gleaned from other Wikipedia articles. Hopefully they aren't all as doubtful as the Rogers Communications entry.
