In the reception section, it says for ROCKY MOUNTAIN:
"According to James Garner, the script for the movie was used as the basis for the first episode of the TV series Maverick."
This is, indeed, what Garner says in the cited article, but his memories are a bit jumbled.
ROCKY MOUNTAIN was the basis for the first CHEYENNE episode, Mountain Fortress, which featured James Garner as a cavalry officer.
All you need to do is compare the plots at IMDB to see the difference. And while most of the character names were changed, Plank remained and Johanna Carter from the movie was simplified to Joan Carter.
The first two Maverick episodes are completely different [and his costume came from another movie cited in one of the two Maverick books]
