The history section is mostly wrong

[edit]

Okay, I'm not sure how the history section can be so incorrect even after it links to the official Stonechild College PDF. The history section on this page insinuates that Little Shell was chief over the Chippewa AND Cree (understand that these are two different tribes that came together because they couldn't find a home on their own), that Asiniwin took over the Chippewa AND Cree after Little Shell died, and that Little Bear joined him much later. This is not accurate. Little Shell was chief only over the Chippewa. Asiniwin took over only the Chippewa after his predecessor passed. The "Cree" part of the equation does not come into it at all until Little Bear shows up.

I think the confusion here is that people think "Chippewa-Cree" is one tribe because it shows up that way on the federal rolls. It is not one tribe. If you go to Rocky Boy today, the Cree families still identify as Cree and the Chippewa families...well, a lot of them are pretending to be Cree these days, but that's a racial problem that this article probably doesn't need to address. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.190.159.148 (talk) 07:57, 11 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I'm not sure that's accurate either. Little Shell's band came from North Dakota wheras Ahsiniwin came from Wisconsin. They are two different bands of Chippewa. And Little Bear came from Canada after the Riel Rebellion. I'll try to find some sources to update the historical inaccuracies in this article. There's also a new website from the Chippewa Cree Tribal Historic Preservation Office that might have some info.Cartersapphire (talk) 16:30, 22 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Rocky Boy or Rocky Boy's?

[edit]

Is the reservation's name really "Rocky Boy Indian Reservation" or "Rocky Boy's Indian Reservation"? The article (and sources, it seems) uses both. Of course, here on Wikipedia we use WP:COMMONNAME for article titling, so if one is the common name and the other is the official name, the article title should go with the common name; however, the article should make that clear. —Josiah Rowe (talkcontribs) 06:41, 13 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
