German Rocket Scientists at Westcott.
[edit]Who were the German scientists bought to Britain (and then to RAF Westcott) under 'Operation Surgeon'?
I have found that there were 13 of them, headed by Dr Johannes Schmidt, who was killed in an explosion on the site in March '48.
(2 others were killed in the explosion, and 11 others injured.)
The other scientists at Westcott may have been:
Dr. Jurgen Diedrichsen
Dr. Johannes Weber
Prof. Schlichting
Heinz Kalhert
Kuchemann
Walder
I'd be interested in finding out more about these men, where they lived onsite or in the village, and the work they were involved in.
