Three or Five Gates?
There's a misconception here that I've also noticed scattered around the internet. This article currently states in the Exam Arc section that "Lee can open 5 gates, but only opened 3 during Ura Renge." This is probably based on Gai's remark that Ura Renge requires 3 gates to open, and the way that Rock only seems to open 3 of them during the fight.
In truth, however, in both the manga and anime (chapter 85, and the corresponding episodes 49-50), he opens these three gates in addition to two he had already opened in a less spectacular manner, therefore opening all 5 gates. The evidence is in his naming of these last three gates as he opens them; in both manga and anime he announces them as the third, fourth and fifth gates respectively.
I'm basing this on Dattebayo's subtitled version of the anime and Inane's translated version of the manga, both of which are fan-works, so there are still grounds for me to be corrected.
If there are no objections, however, could we correct this? --Twelfth 00:44, 21 February 2006 (UTC)
- You are correct. Lee opened the First Gate when he did the Omote Renge, the Second Gate at the end of chapter 84, and the Third, Fourth, and Fifth Gate in chapter 85. --JadziaLover 01:43, 21 February 2006 (UTC)
- I modified that one sentence. The sentence structure remains almost identical, so there shouldn't be any problems.--Twelfth 22:31, 22 February 2006 (UTC)
NPOV
The article sounds a little fanboy-ish. An example:
- It is because of his determination and hard working ethic that Lee has become an outstanding shinobi, to the point of making Chūnin during Uzumaki Naruto's absence from the village.
All the former 12 genins except Naruto (and with Sasuke being unknown) made it to Chunnin or Jounin even the weaker ones like Chouji and Hinata. Considering Rock Lee is better compared Chouji and Hinata and him being a Chunnin only, so its Rock Lee being Chunnin is nothing special. -Unknown
- but you must remember that the 2 years has about 4 chunin exams......but i dont know when each character entered and passed. so this is nothing really important but if some one knows when everyone passed i would like to know -Unknown
- Hinata's not exactly a weaker one. The one who defeated her in the initial chuunin exam was Neji, who'll you'll note is a Jounin now. In the Naruto factbooks she's rated at a higher taijutsu level then all the people in her year (so that wouldn't include Neji or Lee). She doesn't really deserve to be paired with Chouji as weaker. That and, Chouji's only weak when he doesn't use his pills :) Anyway, I don't think there's anyway to find out who passed, although we can safely assume Neji became chuunin first (besides Shika). Continual removals of content
People keep removing references to his appearance in the movies and my expansion of other sections, what's up? 'I'm inclined to agree this isn't important' is a ridiculous comeback. Furthermore, articles like this get so much traffic, it's not as simply as reverting a deletion, as changes have been made since, requiring manual replacement. Everything related to Rock Lee belongs in this article. Tyciol 10:24, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
- Let's first look at your section on the "Start credits". The only factual part of that paragraph is that his silhouette appears and that he has competitive feelings towards both Naruto and Neji, the rest being pure conjecture. Given that his appearance in the credits is unremarkable and his rivalry with Neji is already mentioned, the only part of that entire section is that he views Naruto in a competitive light. Next, your section on the "Third Movie". It starts out as a introductory summary of the movie as a whole, goes on to detail Lee's wardrobe, speculates as to Lee's role, and again goes back to the movie as a whole. When the movie is actually made available, you can try adding a more Lee-oriented synopsis.
- As for the rest of it, why does half of the article need to be dedicated to his role in the filler arcs? I don't think anything of great significance happens during the filler arcs, and it's extremely unlikely that anything that goes on in the filler arcs will be integrated in any large degree to the anime's adaption of the manga. If something in the condensed filler arc summary is wrong, then fix it, but the filler arc summaries don't need to surpass what is actually relevant to the series in length. ~SnapperTo 21:38, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
- Also, why was the Trivia section cut out? —Preceding unsigned comment added by MajinPalgen (talk • contribs)
- WP:TRIV dictates that trivia sections be avoided when possible and that whatever useful information is in the section be worked into the rest of the article. Whatever notable information that was in the trivia section can be found elsewhere. ~SnapperTo 21:38, 12 March 2007 (UTC)
Naruto the Movie 3
I am currently in the process of writing a small section for Lee's role in the third movie. Shiakmaru has one, why shouldn't Lee? In any case, I added it. >_> 01:10, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

Primary Lotus
um...this page was weird please tell me it's right...um, yeah. Listen, on the abilities page, is the Primary or Initial lotus technique just not a big enough ability for the page? Cause he uses it quite a lot during the Chuunin exams. I was just wondering about this.Kakashi The Mirror Ninja 23:00, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
- Hi again. Primary Lotus is briefly mentioned under Jutsu (Naruto)#Eight Gates. You do have a good point, though, so let's wait for other opinions on the matter. Regards, You Can't Review Me!!! 23:11, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
It might just be me , but i don't considered Primary lotus to be worthwhile of note , if anything , it should probably be the strongest of his Lotus techniques, Hidden Lotus/Ura Renge , or a least a link on page to the 8 Gates Techs.Lozmaster 21:01, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
Perhaps we should also note that other than the fillers, Lee has never pulled off a successful Initial Lotus attack (they were countered or guarded against in some way). Sorry if this is mistaken, but I think it's the case.60.50.204.92 09:21, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

Speed and Strength
The filler arcs show just how strong and fast Rock Lee is. Raiga (an S-class ninja) comments that Lee would have killed him in one hit had he not been wearing his lightening armor. The guy from the 3rd Green Beast arc comments that Lee and Guy are both moving faster than the speed of sound (after opening the first 5 gates). Not canonical but shouldn't this be in trivia?
- If you want it there add it.--Kenshin -Himura 20:40, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
- I'm not sure being able to kill Raiga is exactly a large accomplishment. Even though ranked S-Class, it's made pretty clear that Raiga's a pretty sucky ninja, and even though he's one of the mist swords like Zabuza and Kisame, isn't actually very good. His power mainly comes from having the helper on his back (he was mediocre before then) and having his lightning swords. As for moving faster than the speed of sound, I don't see why not to include it. Lee was barely visible when fighting Gaara and the sounds of impact occured with a delay after hitting the walls, so he probably was moving faster than sound. There's a difference between conflicting with canon, and simply giving it better background or explanation in filler. Tyciol 17:56, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

Merge
Given the current consensus about supporting characters having their own articles, I will be merging this article with the List of major Konoha teams article. Can anyone think of a super important reason why he shouldn't be merged? Gailim 06:03, 1 November 2007 (UTC)
The reason why the other atricles were merged is, for example Hinata hasn't done too much in the manga, she only fights Neji, a brief appareance and... Shikamaru, Lee and Neji do more things in the story, they always have more plot than others like Ino, and if we merge this article the list of konoha teams article will be a hell. Tintor2 13:00, 1 November 2007 (UTC)
- That's a good idea.Gaarah8r 23:38, 1 November 2007 (UTC)Gaarah8r
Shikamaru deserves his own article as there has been several focus on him but why does Neji, Lee and Gaara deserve articles ahead of others. Several characters such as Kabuto and Itachi have had more impact on the overall plot and more screen time s I don't see how those nins deserve articles ahead of their own teamates etc.--122.105.90.100 (talk) 12:15, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
maybe the whole team of neji, lee, and tenten could have its own article. Neji and Lee are important characters, and while tenten is mostly just given line in filler because the animators seem to feel bad for her almost, I think it would actually be a good idea to make a seperate article just for the three.
LouisNG114: Removal of DBZ reference in Weighted Clothing fact
Why was this removed? It is a relevant comparison to an other martial arts anime with mystic martial arts powers that also uses weighted clothing and subsequent removal to increase strength and speed. If you don't discuss this, I will add the change again. Tyciol 06:58, 8 February 2006 (UTC)

Suggest merge to List of major Naruto characters. While Lee does play an important role, I am confident that this article can be merged into three paragraphs into the major character article. For example, we don't need to list every ability he uses in debt, we onl need to give a basic explanation of his abilities. Artist Formerly Known As Whocares (talk) 01:13, 25 December 2007 (UTC)
The articles for Neji, this article (Rock Lee), Shikamaru, and Gaara are not stubs, according to TheUltimate3. TyrannoRanger 23:55, 25 December 2007 (UTC)
- No. Rock Lee and Neji have both been important characters throughout the series, and both have decent enough information for articles. I know you have good intentions on this subject, but I believe the format we have is alright. If anyone deserves an article, Kabuto deserves one. I don't know why he was merged, he's played a role as a big as Lee and Neji.. RedEyesMetal (talk) 12:29, 26 December 2007 (UTC)
- Stub or not, both Lee and Neji's articles, along with the former Kabuto's, were in-universe plot article full of fancruft. Remove the unmentionable details and shorten the main details into three paragraphs that basically tell you about Lee's abilities (without saying "this one technique has him jump up and do a kick in the air" throughout the entire article) and this can easily be merged into three paragraphs. Not to mention both Lee and Neji's article have been moved to the wikia. Artist Formerly Known As Whocares (talk) 18:03, 26 December 2007 (UTC)

He is going to merge Neji and Lee. The point is that we cant put out-of-universe info in these 2 articles, while in Part II they lost part in the story. I say that the merge of these two articles is good.Tintor2 (talk) 12:10, 29 December 2007 (UTC)
I don't believe that it would be a good idea to merge the two articles on Neji and Lee because in a sense even though they have not returned in the series since Rescue Gaara arc they have had a huge impact on the main characters such as Sasuke and Naruto trying to better themselves after meeting Lee and Neji. Also although in the first part of the series Lee was wounded and thus far taken out of the main adventures. His being wounded affect many people including Naruto, Guy, Ino, Shikamaru, Tsunade, Sakura, Neji and Tenten. Also wasn't the wikipedia founded to beep the ultimate source of information on the internet. It is understandable if not all things can have their own articles but Lee along with Neji have huge past histories, dreams, and abilities that would make fo a great article. - Redbird 41 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Redbird 41 (talk • contribs) 06:15, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

Rock Lee?
Was there an error in bringing Rock Lee's name to America? I know that names are reversed in Japan (i.e. Uchiha Sasuke), but Rock Lee is the same in both languages. II'm asking this because Rock Lee's team mates and other people refer to him as "Lee" or "Lee-san" rather then "Rock" or "Rock-san." This lack of name reversing is evident in Zaku Abumi, Kin Tsuchi, and Dosu Kinuta. If someone could just clear this up, it'd be much appreciated. DragonMaster 19:39, 10 April 2006 (UTC)
- No, there wasn't a mistake. The second data book gives the romanization of Lee's name as "Rock Lee," just like Gai's name is romanized as "Might Guy". Kakashi's name, however, becomes "Kakashi Hatake". The "Rock" in "Rock Lee" and "Maito" in "Maito Gai" are more likely nicknames the family names. Although we will not know for sure until we are introduced to more of their relatives. ~卍 JadziaLover 会話~投稿 卐~ 22:10, 10 April 2006 (UTC)
- It also seems likely that they simply decided "Rock Lee" flows better, and "lee rock" doesn't evoke the imagery (such as the connection to Bruce Lee) that they want--69.113.106.92 04:03, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
- The reason why Rock Lee's name is not reversed like Sasuke is that ローク・リー has "・" in between while うちはサスケ does not. louisng114 23:27, 22 June 2006

Agreeing with the latter, Rock Lee's "muscle memory" technique needs to be mentioned. Though it is not a formal technique, Mr. Kishimoto obviously put it into the anime and manga for a reason. besides that, the fact that in the show he has been the only one, so far, to show the ability to be able to defend themselves while incapacitated. PLUS the fact that not only does he become far more unpredictable and stronger, he also becomes more reckless but maintains a higher degree of balance since his body seems to only care about maintaining a certain amount of balance regardless of his environment.(Machpovii3...Holla Atcha Bezzle, Kid! 16:40, 30 September 2008 (UTC)) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Machpovii3 (talk • contribs)

Relationships
It says when discussing his relationship with Sakura that his reasons for liking her are unadressed, but other crushes have been. When have they been elaborated on?

Power Stone Reference
A fan tried to remove a reference to Powerstone. Kishimoto is a well-known video game player so it's no surprise Rock Lee is similar to Wangtang. Wangtang was a character with abilities similar to DBZ, which is why so many people think Rock Lee got his abilities primarily from DBZ. He actually got them from Wangtang who is himself is a Z-Warrior knockoff. Lee shares many of Wangtang attacks. -- ARHicks00

Kishimoto is a well-known video gamer and the artwork is unmistakably similar to Capcom own work. In fact, Lee's postures are heavily influence by Wangtang's. They are plenty of noted inneundos within Wikipedia with confirmation such as the inneundos of Dead Space for example, which weren't confirmed by the company or creators itself. Same goes with Godhand of Berserk manga who have had inneundos reference made without the author confirming it. Which is why I said in my inneundos that making reference to Rock Lee and Wangtang can spark conversery amongst fans. - ARHicks00
Secondly, you can see the NINs in Rock Lee's hair. You can look at any anime and manga picture to see that. Same goes with Rock Lee's bruce traits. Lastly, Bruce Lee share a similar mop-top hair style before he died. -- ARHicks00
Citing other stuff is not a valid argument. Although I m pretty sure Lee is based on Bruce Lee, Kishimoto has not confirmed such thing. The fan innuendo is still speculation by fans, and should not be used in wikipedia.Tintor2 (talk) 15:50, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
You just cited the Beatles, which did have anything to do with Rock Lee's mop top. I noted other stuff in wikipedia because if you guys are suppose to clean up crew then you might to look into those other innuendos. Secondly, innuendos are created for smart fans who to spot. Not all authors, creators, and artist are going to come out and note their inspiration. Being a author myself (with a publish book), I have plenty of innuendos that are only be picked up on if you read between the lines. Infact, are innuendos are not facts, but a nod to those who see the connection. I've never passed the innuendos off as facts.
At the most, I'm put a part for character speculation, but the innuendos have to be known. To erase them is insult to all wikipedia users and fans. -- ARHicks00
- Actually, you'll find that inserting speculation and not facts verifible in official or reliable third party sources is an insult to all wikipedia users. It its not verifiable, it's not coming in. Wikipedia is not for speculation. Dandy Sephy (talk) 16:04, 4 June 2009 (UTC)

- Contributions to a fan site would be welcome, as this is where these type of things would be appreciated. I hope you don't get turned off to Wikipedia from this though. It is just that Wikipedia being a "good source of information" actually depends on whether or not we can verify everything here with a reliable source. Cheers! Scapler (talk) 16:31, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
- You must first understand that Wikipedia has two policies that all infomration has to adhear to. The first one is Wikipedia:Verifiability, which requires that all information has to be verified through a reliable source. It states that material that has been challenged or likely to be challenged, and all quotations, must be attributed to a reliable, published source. Since the information you attempted to included was not attributed to a reliable source, it was removed. The second policy is Wikipedia:No original research, which states that Wikipedia does not publish original thought or contain any new analysis or synthesis based on published materials. Your statements are your own speculation and comparisons between different characters or persons. There is a third policy, Wikipedia:Neutral point of view, that all articles and content must adhear to, but I don't think it is applicable in this case. --Farix (Talk) 18:38, 4 June 2009 (UTC) (editing from school)

The correct names of the gates are in order, precisely according to the anime:
Open gate(開门), Energy Gate(休门), Life Gate(生门), Wound Gate(傷门), Forest gate(杜门), View Gate(景门), Insanity Gate(驚门), and Death Gate(死门).
We should make a separate article on the Hachimon Tonku, since there isn't one.
- hey, shouldn't it be noted on "other media" that rock lee can open the 6th gate on naruto ultimate ninja 2? he yells out "gate of vision's open!" on the third part of his level 3 special attack, after doing ura renge, and then does a "true hidden lotus" like the one might guy does (correct me if i'm wrong)
Romance
Does Lee understand Sakura doesn't return his feelings? If so, this should be noted. Lots42 (talk) 09:01, 14 September 2008 (UTC)
Who knows? Maybe she does love him. Or maybe she'll start to love him sooner or later. Or maybe she won't. You should just wait until the series' conclusion.Redbird 41 (talk) 06:38, 4 March 2011 (UTC)
- Lee not understanding such such a basic concept is noteable for the character. Lots42 (talk) 20:41, 4 March 2011 (UTC)
GA Review
- This review is transcluded from Talk:Rock Lee/GA1. The edit link for this section can be used to add comments to the review.
I currently see two problems with this article (1b and 6, specifically) that keep it from meeting the GA criteria, but they're relatively minor fixes, so I'm putting the page on hold.
First, the article would currently be difficult for an outsider to the subject to understand. Series jargon, especially when placed it in the lead section, it should be explained in more universally applicable context where possible. A few that jumped out at me would be "Lee has dedicated himself to using solely taijutsu in battle" (Wouldn't "physical combat" or "martial arts" be a more accessible way of phrasing it for the lead?) Similarly, in the abilities section, "two types of techniques ninja utilize." would be better worded in a manner that made it clear you are speaking of Naruto's ninjas, not real ones, and in the synopsis section describing Tsunade as a surgeon or medical ninja rather than just "a Konohagakure ninja" would make it clearer why she's able to heal him. Lastly, reference number 38 appears to contradict the text that follows it: the reference is to a popularity poll from 2008, but the page then says no popularity polls have run since 2006? One of these is wrong, or at least very unclear.
Second, image usage. I do not believe Image:LeeClashofNinja.jpg meets the WP:NFCC guideline, as it does nothing but illustrate Lee's appearance in the game. Since Lee's appearance is not substantially different in the games than it is in the rest of the franchise, it fails criteria 8, as it does not "significantly increase readers' understanding of the topic." (A more minor note is that the image caption in the infobox is slightly inaccurate, since that picture is not drawn by Kishimoto, but that's a technicality.)
Good work otherwise though. Drop me a line once you've finished making those fixes. --erachima talk 06:23, 21 September 2008 (UTC)
- Think I've nailed everything. FYI, you're supposed to create a subpage for the GA review, which I did for you here. sephiroth bcr (converse) 06:53, 21 September 2008 (UTC)
- Alright, looks better now, article passed. --erachima talk 15:43, 21 September 2008 (UTC)
Rock Lee's Series
Rock Lee has a new series. I'm not sure how long it's planned to last, but shouldn't this be added or mentioned in he article. And if so where? And if not why? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.3.177.193 (talk) 00:20, 5 December 2010 (UTC)
