Previous draft

[edit]

An earlier draft appeared at this location. User:Liz, could you please WP:REFUND the previous draft, deleted around 03:40, 19 February 2021 (see this notification of yours) into a section #Deleted_draft on this Talk page? Or if a distinct filename is needed, then how about to subpage Draft talk:Robina Asti/deleted draft instead (or to Draft:Robina Asti old page, or to a User subpage under User:Mathglot, or to any reasonable location of your choice). Thanks! Mathglot (talk) 11:15, 23 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Early life?

[edit]

Early life would mean childhood, especially when put at the beginning of an article. Their marriage should be later in the article and the section should be titled something different. SilverserenC 22:47, 23 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Silver seren Yes, go for it. Whatever makes sense. Or maybe, "Personal" as top level (H2) section, then subsections, "Early" (or childhood and early education), "Higher education" (if appropriate), "Marriage", and so on. Things don't have to be in chronological order; her marriage is a personal thing, and it can come under a "Personal life" section, even if it happened after their career; a thematic approach often works better (but not always). See what works best. Mathglot (talk) 22:54, 23 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
That's what I was sectioning it into before, with it being under a Personal life section at the end (since those are usually at the end in biography articles). It makes sense however to separate out her transition and LGBT advocacy like you did. So I think I will just move that one part to the end. SilverserenC 22:56, 23 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Additionally I still have more content to add so further juggling may be necessary as it keeps growing. Good teamwork, this should be a good ITNRD candidate. Innisfree987 (talk) 22:57, 23 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Missing ref

[edit]

(edit conflict × 2) Innisfree987, can you clarify what source was used in this edit, identified as ":0" in the wikicode? It generates an error here for note #5 of revision 1013873243. Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 23:02, 23 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Mathglot, yeah sorry I too was repeatedly edit-conflicted there so I was waiting to fix that until no one else was working on the entry. It’s the Refinery29 source tho. Innisfree987 (talk) 23:13, 23 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
No worries; thanks. Mathglot (talk) 23:19, 23 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'm glad I was right at guessing which one it was and correcting it. :P SilverserenC 23:20, 23 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

These would require edits to add Asti to the article in question:

Please do not not add in-links while this article is still in Draft space. Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 00:01, 24 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I went ahead and made a redirect for her full name and then also added her to the births in 1921 and deaths in 2021 articles. SilverserenC 04:03, 24 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Good to go?

[edit]

I've added everything I can find on the topic of Mrs. Asti. But, Innisfree987, you mentioned something about still needing to add material on invasive exams activism? I haven't been able to find anything on that. SilverserenC 00:12, 24 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It can def go to main space, abundantly ready for that but yes maybe just give me a few minutes before it goes to ITN/C, because that will bring a whole group of editors in doing copy edits and the like. I’ll post back shortly when I’m done! Innisfree987 (talk) 00:21, 24 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I've never done ITN/C, so when the time comes for that, someone else will have to handle it. SilverserenC 00:23, 24 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I’m happy to take care of ITN. Shall we start by moving to main? I’ve done the bulk of what I had in mind, prob will think of what I’ve forgotten once it’s moved! Innisfree987 (talk) 00:39, 24 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'm happy with it. I just added a tiny bit of info about her being in charge of a chapter of the Ninety-Nines. Other than that, i'm out of stuff to add. SilverserenC 00:39, 24 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Silver seren:, I saw the stuff about her work on pilot recertification for women and removing the requirement for internal exams; I think that may be in her Ted-x talk. Mathglot (talk) 04:34, 24 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it's live! let's keep going, and beef it up now. I added section "Further reading", with citations to four websites which haven't been cited in the article yet. It could be there are some nuggets of new information we can mine there, and then move the citation from "Further" into the body, so it shows up in "References". Ham radio instructor

[edit]

Asti taught ham radio for students going for their ham license, at The Learning Annex on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Personal communication from someone who had her for their instructor; trying to find documentation for it. Her call sign was KD2IZ. Issues of QST magazine list her name in various lists, but nothing specifically about her that I've seen. Mathglot (talk) 02:57, 24 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

All I can find is this brief mention of her name and call sign in a long list of people who passed the amateur radio license exam. SilverserenC 03:05, 24 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, saw that. Just found her ham registration, here. So at least it's legitimate. Still looking for information about the class she taught, but sounds highly likely. Mathglot (talk) 03:07, 24 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Just checking in about when I should post to WP:ITN/C to propose her for Main Page time. Technically we have seven days from the 21st but it’s good to give a few days for the other ITN regulars to check the entry and ask any questions they may have before the drop off date. So as soon as the entry is stable, wave a hand and I’ll post. Innisfree987 (talk) 04:59, 24 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Seems good to go now. I don't think there will be any other major additions to the article at this point. SilverserenC 05:01, 24 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Great, I’ll do it now. Innisfree987 (talk) 05:25, 24 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Done Can be seen here: wikipedia:In_the_news/Candidates#March_21. For those new to the process, ITNRD basically only ivotes on whether the entry meets quality threshold (not the worthiness of the subject), and presumably we all feel good about the work we did, so it’s not necessary for us to say so in an ivote (do vote on other noms if you want tho, always need more eyes!) Still it can be good to keep an eye on the nomination to promptly resolve any weaknesses or questions ivoters have, especially as nominations turn into a pumpkin seven days after the death. Innisfree987 (talk) 05:39, 24 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Now featured on Main Page! Well done all. Be sure to check the page view stats in a few days—it is remarkable how many people read this section! Innisfree987 (talk) 16:45, 24 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
5,621 as of Wednesday, but not yet registering on the page views widget; should be there by tomorrow. Well done, all! Mathglot (talk) 11:14, 25 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Innisfree987 and Silver seren: There it goes, just kicked in; looks like it's up over 7,000 now. Mathglot (talk) 02:54, 26 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Wahoo! Yes in two days it’s almost 13,000 total! I would love for WiR to do more of these—I did not appreciate until this year what a valuable way to shed light on women’s biographies this is. It’s quick turnaround but not really more work than a DYK, and way more readership. Very glad we did this one. Cheers! Innisfree987 (talk) 04:48, 26 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I will say, it’s unusual and just chance that Asti’s has been up across three calendar days—usually bios are listed for 12-24 hours, dependent on how many other submissions there are. We caught a lull in turnover. Innisfree987 (talk) 04:52, 26 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Interesting. Without access to the server logs, we don't know where the views are coming from, or how many people are clicking on that link, unless there's some tool I'm not aware of. Mathglot (talk) 05:39, 26 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
True—it’s easier to guesstimate when the subject has a preexisting WP bio. Generally then you see a big bump the day of the announcement, slow tapering down, and then a big jump back up once the entry has been fixed up and then posted to ITNRD four or five days later. To give a recent example I worked on, here’s someone who passed on February 4 and the entry was on Main Page on February 10; you can see the two different bumps. But for Asti we don’t really know, it’s true. Next time we could prob move to mainspace sooner—like once we had a bunch of good sources for notability, even if the entry wasn’t perfect, still something for interested readers... Innisfree987 (talk) 06:07, 26 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I'm willing. Maybe we should round up you, me, Silver seren if he is willing, anybody else you can think of, and make up a quick-bio task force, se we can throw a biography stub together in a couple of hours or an afternoon, and get it out there the same day. Count me in, if you want to make up something like that. I bet you could do it as a subpage under Wikipedia:WikiProject Biography maybe a Task Force page, "Bio Express" or something.
Oh—the toolforge pageviews tool just updated: today's figure was 7,238. Mathglot (talk) 09:07, 26 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
