Is disambiguation really necessary?
[edit]Looking at the links to this page all but 2 are football related. Furthermore, there's currently 116 links to Roberto Carlos da Silva compared to 24 to Roberto Carlos (singer). Finally, a Google search for "Robert Carlos" football yields 2,950,000 results [1] while "Roberto Carlos" MPB only yields 182,000 [2]. I can't help but wonder on what basis some editors are deciding that the two names are equally (or near equally) expected by users searching for, or editors linking to, "Roberto Carlos". --Daduzi talk 00:19, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
- Then search in Portuguese. I googled for "Roberto Carlos" and, from the first 10 results, 8 were about the singer. Here in Brazil, he is far more famous than the football player; mention the name without a sports context, and pretty much anyone will think of the singer. - Stormwatch 18:10, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
- That would be a good argument for disambiguation on the Portuguese Wikipedia. This isn't the Portuguese Wikipedia, however, and as such it's notability in English speaking countries that counts. And in those countries the singer is virtually unknown. --Daduzi talk 18:26, 12 July 2006 (UTC)
- This is totally unnecessary. Alexsanderson83 (talk) 22:12, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
- I definitely agree, thought it was weird that Roberto Carlos needs disambiguation. I will redirect to the footballer page, and move this page to a disambigation page. If anyone objects then please state here. Thanks.Feudonym (talk) 21:06, 2 October 2014 (UTC)
