Shaw's voice
[edit]One of the interesting things to me about him is the fact that, for someone who spent so much of his life getting beautiful sounds from singers, he himself had an amazingly disphonious middle-American squawk of a voice. This puts the lie to the idea that a great choral conductor must have a great voice. --Wspencer11 (talk to me...) 17:36, 3 November 2006 (UTC)
Discography
[edit]I am considering moving the Shaw discography from my personal site to this page. The album covers would have to be dropped, but the rest of the information is text. This would preserve the considerable amount of research that has gone into the discography from eventually being lost (no personal website lasts forever). Does anyone have any objections to this?Symphony Girl 23:28, 8 November 2006 (UTC)
Information Box
[edit]Recognizing that these boxes tend to inspire rather heated debate, with some hesitation I must point out that describing the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and the Cleveland Orchestra as "associated acts" was just plain silly, not to mention incomplete if not misleading. Accordingly, I've removed that line. I also amended "genres" to convey a bit better that Shaw did not limit his activities to "classical" choral music. Drhoehl 21:34, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
Well, I see that "associated acts" is back. It's no less silly than it was before. I'd still be inclined to delete it entirely, as it *still* is incomplete and misleading, but at the very least would anyone object if I were to change it to "associated ensembles"? - Take it out, no question. These things are completely useless in classical articles, as one of the most musically-literate editors notes here: see consensus at Composers Wikiproject: oversimplifies, distorts, misinforms, competes against the article). --Wspencer11 (talk to me...) 16:27, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
- or why don't we just fix the 'offending' words. --emerson7 06:43, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
I tried changing "acts" to "ensembles," and the entire line disappeared. Since the information there was incomplete anyhow, I just went ahead and removed the line entirely.Drhoehl 00:37, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
I am almost positive Shaw is of no relation to the winemaking Shaws. Can we get a citation for this fact please? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.83.31.71 (talk) 05:43, 20 May 2011 (UTC)
- Robert Shaw cannot possibly have vacationed at the Shaw winery before starting his Chorale in 1948. The Shaw Winery was founded in 1974. HowardMorland (talk) 04:25, 30 June 2019 (UTC)
