Right now there's a redlink to the comet with its number in front of its name; is this a separate article to be created, or should there just be a redirect? Anchoress 08:57, 14 January 2007 (UTC)
Created since--Golden Wattle talk 21:11, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
Page name
[edit]Why does this page name incorporate his middle initial? He calls himsef Rob McNaught and Robert McNaught in a staff listing for Siding Spring [1] The ANU staff directory has him listed as Mr Rob McNaught.[2] I propose to change if no comments made.--Golden Wattle talk 22:32, 21 January 2007 (UTC)
- I won't change because of all the links (asteroid lists) :-( , but I am registering a protest at the breach of the Naming conventions policy - Use common names of persons and things. --Golden Wattle talk 22:37, 21 January 2007 (UTC)
Unused red links
[edit]Do all the comets need to be linked to potential future pages? I would have thought that only important comets should have their own pages created - most of them won't. Carl-PG74 (talk) 02:26, 11 April 2013 (UTC)
- Have removed links from all comets that don't currently have pages. If they are not of note, they are not likely to have individual articles. If they are, links can be added. Carl-PG74 (talk) 14:19, 24 April 2013 (UTC)
Obsolete?
[edit]Page https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uppsala_Southern_Schmidt_Telescope states "the Southern Near Earth Object Survey closed down" which may (or may not) conflict with this article's statement "The SSS is the only active Near Earth Object survey in the Southern Hemisphere". SN 1987A
[edit]Having known Rob McNaught when we were both undergraduates (at St Andrews) and being a follower of astronomical news as I still am to this day, my recollection from 30 years ago is that Bob was the first professional astronomer to photograph Supernova 1987A after its initial sightings. Is this so, and if so is it worth adding to the article? {The poster formerly known as 87.81.30.195} 90.200.138.27 (talk) 23:12, 9 November 2017 (UTC)
- As SN 1987A was initially jointly found by two professional and one amateur astronomer, I don't think that McNaught's photography of it is that important. Dabbler (talk) 04:31, 10 November 2017 (UTC)
