[edit]Does anyone know if blake was married and if so to whom? Did he have children and what were their names?
Robert Blake was unmarried, but was a member of a large Somerset family, descendents of which are very numerous to this day. Blake was born in 1598, not 1599, which a number if reference books state including the original DNB. I have corrected it. Apwoolrich 12:31, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
Naming of this article
[edit]Although it seems to be in common usage Blake was "General at Sea" rather than admiral - therefore should this page be moved? I have already moved Admiral Blake Museum to Blake Museum which is the correct title according to the local council.— Rod talk 08:04, 10 October 2008 (UTC)
- Technically General at Sea is correct, however Admiral is widely and more commonly used (eg General At Sea - The Life Of Admiral Robert Blake - ISBN 0356036944; Robert Blake, admiral and general at sea; Dictionary of Battles and Sieges - ISBN 978-0313335389; Warships of the World to 1900 - ISBN 978-0395984147; The Restoration: England in the 1660s - ISBN 0631195742), and since General At Sea is also not a title that most people would recognise either, my vote would be to leave it as Admiral. In fact, to throw another option into the mix, the two memorials to Blake in St Margaret's Church Westminster, refer to him as Colonel, not Admiral nor General at Sea - but I wouldn't vote for that change either. The museum name is correct though - they renamed themselves (or at least changed the wording on the sign) from Admiral Blake Museum to Blake Museum a year or two so ago. 85.210.202.55 (talk) 18:39, 9 March 2011 (UTC)
