I've had a go at expanding the article. I don't think that the details I've included are especially unusual in political articles, such as the campaign that Parker was running in the 1993 and 1997 elections and the number of seats his group won. I'm sure there's still a lot that could be added about his work in opposition, but I don't have access to many more offline sources at the minute (I'm relying on copies I took when working on the local election pages some time ago).
